I just came back from a run to the computer shop. Bought myself one of them new fangled USB.3 external drives. 2-terabyte (I almost bought the 3-tera but I figured my wife would shoot me.) I have five external drives already, each 1 or 1.5 terabyte. The cost of a 2-terabyte USB.3 drive was less than $150. I remember paying almost $350 for a 250 megabyte drive back in the day. I had to install a new card in the tower to handle the new USB.3 Now I'm copying files and getting blown away by how much faster USB.3 is over USB .2

I have found the ideal lampshade for my desk lamp project: a smallish wine cooler. Now I only need to get the hardware and the wood. And I need to decide which wire to use: plastic silver or white twisted with fabric.

It might take a while before it's done. I'm going to get the winecooler tomorrow and then I need to get my dad to come with me to the DIY store to pick out good wood. I'm hoping he'll allow me to use the saw-bench this time, I hate sawing by hand!

*SIGH* SS remembers the 8" floppy disks! They were actually floppy then and you could see the little arm inside the drive tapping away. A great big 8" black and green monitor on a stick went with it as well as a 9 pin dot matric printer!. didn't know what the internet was, but we still had to connect to a modem!

I just finished watching a charming little movie on Netflix -- Gadjo Dilo. The music and dancing are fantastic, and I immediately turned around and bought the soundtrack from iTunes. (It's available streaming through Netflix for those of you with that option.)

Hmmm, going to have to look that up, if you liked it that much!

Listening to music, letting the fan blow on me (ahhhhhh), replying to various silly threads here, and contemplating making dinner for Chris.

I am going to try a self-fulfilling prophecy:

"Today the condo owners association will condescend to see us."

Maybe that will speed things up a bit.

At the moment I'm resting my aching back. I just finished building a new ramp to the shed I built several years ago (the ramp my son built had rotted out). It was my first time using my new Porter-Cable battery-powered circular saw. I bought it because I had such good luck with one of their battery-powered drills and a battery powered reciprocating saw, and since they all use the same battery, there was no need to get another (I have two). Unfortunately, that circular saw eats batteries like they're going out of style. I manage two to five cuts, and it's time to charge the battery already. That sucks.

Being annoyed! There's this awful noise that has been going on outside all day and it sounds like popcorn being popped in the microwave!

And when I got up this morning, that's when it started... I fell back asleep and saw this big tub of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" just sitting there in my dreams.

I always wonder at the price of electronic devices, it drops greatly as new technology is "discovered".

usb 3.0 is that fast?...

no, I'll wait until they launch usb 4.0

I guess I'm not the "odd one out" here. I remember the "floppy" disks too! But just a later generation from yours SS. They were much smaller. And if you leave one in the CPU floppy disk drive, Windows 98 won't run...

I remember backing up the BASIC files I had written for my CoCo 3 on a cassette tape.
