Anecdotal evidence isn't really anecdotal if you live in the Pacific Northwest. It's special scientific evidence discovered by your precocious nephews.

I've seen a few people one the train since moving up to Brisbane and I plan on being one of them myself, once my Kobo Touch Edition arrives.

![]() No. Not really. So far I have seen: (I don't count two Sony 505, who were bought but never used by the owners [my recommendation]) 1 Sony Reader PRS-505 3 years ago in Mexico (Spanish tourists) 1 Sony Reader PRS-505 a colleague of mine. She reads books on it. [my recommendation] 5 Kindle 3. 1 in London undeground 1 in doctor waiting room 1 a colleague of mine 1 in the college canteen 1(2) in the same family where the lady has 505 and uses it. Although, I am not sure one of the kindles is being used at all. So, 4 years down the line and I see very little progress in my corner of the world. |

Imagine a bland documentary voice ---
Welcome once again to Mild Kingdom. I'm your host, Handsome Hairguy. Today, we are visiting the native habitat of ebook readers in the wild. I can see that we will not have to look very far to find them. Those devices seem be be everywhere, in family groups, in mated pairs, but the happiest of all seem to be single. Yes, this airport is fertile ground for the ereader to be found in the wild. Tune in next time when we tour the land of the blue-breasted geek(squad). |

I had only ever seen one ereader in the "flesh" when I decided to get one for practical reasons. However, I then took about a year pondering options until the K3 was launched last year. For all sorts of reasons that decided me, and I got one. Since then various members of my family have seen mine, liked it and got one. So I now have several people in my close family circle who have ereaders. I do also see quite a few when I'm travelling either by air or by train. I see other people with iPads, netbooks and smart phones, but I don't know whether they are reading or doing something else.

I think there are several reasons for the increase. 1) the ability to increase the font size makes it easier for older people to read since many of them don't have eyesight that's as strong as it was when they were younger (I'm just 40 and have bifocals) and 2)the price of the ereaders are going down so it's more affordable. If x many people buy something at price y1 then twice (or more) as many people will be inclined to buy that same thing at price y2. If something costs $500.00 but later goes down to $250.00 or less more people will buy it.

At Starbucks this weekend a guy and his son each had Kindles.
A few weeks ago at a Mexican taco joint someone had a Nook. I stopped bringing my ebook reader to the car-wash. I could never get any reading done because people kept noticing my ereader and asking me about it. In December I tried to get my wife to read something on my Sony 505 and she said "I dont think I would like one of those." (I had 2 kindles in Christmas wrap -grrr). End of January she apologized and said she really likes her Kindle. (She loves the Dictionary feature which I never use- whoda thunk?) It's one of those things like a Car or a desk chair that you just have to use for a bit before you really understand how it feels. And the real bonus: Pre-order some books from a favorite author: Janet Evanovitch, Kathy Reichs, Lisa Lutz, Preston & Child, etc. When it suddenly shows up on your Kindle - it's like a little un-expected gift. |

I read in my android smartphone, one fellow coworker reads in his iPhone and there's one guy here who reads on a Kindle 1. Unfortunately, I don't think that counts for general populace, as we're all geeks and software programmers...

I think most of the age difference thing is because my generation doesn't read as much as the older generations, I know only a few other people who read a fair bit that are under 25. You also don't see many younger people reading paper books either. SAD
