Handwriting OCR Options?
I just won an EE on ebay (one of the new $249 ones) after a lot of research into various options. I'm primarily planning on using the journal and pdf annotation features for taking notes on academic papers.
I know it's come up a few times, but I was curious what people have found works best for doing OCR on handwritten notes. I'm cost constrained, so ABBYY and other $100+ programs are not a realistic option, but if they're the only thing that works well, I might just have to bite the bullet. Thanks! |

EdgeSync (free) is working on edge Journal files OCR to OneNote in future release .06 I believe. Keep watching for that. Other than that I would like to hear of any other options as well...paid or free. Link:

With EdgeSync you can convert the journal files into onenote. Once you have them in onenote you can convert to text. Another option is mobilenoter which allows you to edit onenote files (on the tablet side).
Of course all this options require a PC to do the actual conversion. Quote:

Edgesync let you convert esj files to onenote. Once you have the ink in onenote just select it right click on it and select convert ink to text.

Nope
That does not work for me in Onenote 2010. Yes the Journals go into Onenote from Edgesync. After selecting the ink area, the right click "ink" choices are greyed out, not functional.
Anyone else have this issue, what an I doing wrong? |

Oh yeah when you first import the journal to onenote, onenote assumes that the ink is a drawing that is why you can't convert to text. First you need to select the ink, right click and select "treat ink as handwriting". Then you should be able to convert to text.
