But only tablets run Android apps (out of the box) no eink readers. I think that the thread and main discussion is about eink devices. I don't know the 1st eink device that out of the box, can read from B&N and Amazon, without any hack. |

I have not tried, but is a hack anyway. Like running Kindle app. on Nook Touch. I don't feel the need of checking or buying from B&N, to be honest. I can find everything on Amazon. If not, O'reilly or any other online store that sells DRM free books.

I understand. Just want folks to know that they can purchase B&N books and read them without removing DRM if they don't own a NOOK or don't like the NOOK app. Many folks love Aldiko for their Adobe DRM'd ePubs. They may not be aware that they can use it for B&N stuff as well.

Is there an alternative to the Kindle app for folks? Nope. Why is that the case? I don't know the answer, I'm just asking. I would be more willing to buy Kindle books if there were an alternative app, in the event I can't remove the DRM.

But why you would like to do that if you own a Kindle reader? The only reason I think is if you're not satisfied with the Kindle for Android or whatever app. you're using. On which case, people will have to break the DRM anyway. You have to if you would like to use Apple reader with a B&N book, for example. Another inconvenient is that exporting your books that way (please correct me if I'm wrong) you are not able to sync with your Nook device. |

BTW, I was reading this recent Nook review in Wired and the author comes up with this pearl:

Touch vs keys
I don't have one of the sony style touch devices, but of the readers I have, the K3 has the best user interface. In my opinion that is.
This is not considering format issues, being locked issues etc. |

Or someone who is busy working during the day, and does their majority of reading in bed at night? I have exactly the same view, I prefer a backlit reader because I do almost all my reading in low or no light. Why is that so funny?

And even now, at the longest day of the year, it's too dark to read in the bedroom in the evening. It's even dark in the living room (too dark to read without assisting lights). |

Figured it out yet? If not, then this is how it goes: if you have a PC, and haven't installed office on it, you can't read doc files. It is the same way that you need software for pdf files, epub files, mobi files, djvu files, mp3 files, avi files, you know, ALL files. But I am curios to know which piece of hardware you think is missing from the nook, sony, etc, that keeps them from reading mobi files. |

I understand how you feel, Nanopr, but doesn't that mean you can't make a useful comment on this thread? After all, it was created to discuss specific differences between the Nook Simple Touch and the Kindle 3. By your logic, any Nook trumps any Kindle, which means this discussion is probably academic to you. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 06-21-2011 at 07:48 AM. |

I never thought I would be a Kindle girl and I mean never. But the contrast is a huge improvement over my Nook and the Astak, I thought I would love touch navigation but I really didn't, too imprecise. I love the keyboard. LOVE it. The only thing I dislike about both the Nook and the Kindle is DRM but problem solved and I shop at both and put what I buy on the Kindle to my hearts content. Aldiko is my, bar none, favorite interface but I dislike reading for any length of time on the lcd screen and it kills my battery. I use it mostly when my dh wants to go to sleep and I don't. For the foreseeable future, I can't imagine an ereader that makes me happier. ![]() |
