I got a 302 this past Christmas but never really did anything with it beyond the initial charging and fiddling with the already loaded books. I leave tomorrow on a train trip from New York to Florida before going on a 7 day cruise and then returning by train to New York. The train trip is about 18 hours each way and I figured I'd spend some time playing with the 302 comparing it to my rooted 1st gen Nook.
So I plugged my brand new 32GB Class AData MicrosSDHC card into the 302 and plugged the 302 into the computer. According to the manual it's supposed to ask me if I want to charge or connect to the computer for content loading. I got the Bookland.net screen that I first see when it turns on and then it goes to the main menu screen and starts charging. Nothing about connecting to the computer. I checked my computer and it doesn't see it at all. So then I start poking around the settings to see if there's something in there I need to select or unselect. Can't find anything about that but I do find that the 302 only recognizes my SD card as being 16 *MB* instead of 32 *GB* and of that 16MB only 6MB are available. What is going on? Four different computers recognize the memory card and there's nothing on it so I know that's not the issue. I've tried connecting the 302 to two different computers and neither of them will recognize it. Both are running WinXP SP2. Am I missing something or do I have a new paperweight? Because I can only read Hounds of the Baskervilles so many times. |

For the computer to recognize the Internal Memory or the SD card you have to connect the Reader to the computer while both are turned on. On the internal memory there should be sufficient space for lots of E-book (only a small part of the 1GB is used for the system and the 'Hounds of the Baskervilles').

Hi, both were turned on. I tried unplugging and plugging the pocketbook into the computer several times and it always popped up with the Bookland.net screen before going to the main menu.
I have 16GB of books, professional and fanfic, and just got another 3GB from a friend that I plan to spend some time sorting while I'm on my vacation. Internal memory isn't even close enough. Plus I can't access internal memory. None of my computers recognize the reader. |

I agree with paola..................there's a setting you need to change. It's in charging mode. Set it to always ask and that should do it.

Where is this setting? I looked under Settings and didn't see anything that looked like I could change that.

Hi BookJunkieLI, et al,
Paola is right - for the 302 main menu, select Settings, then Connectivity. Second from the bottom is an item USB Mode or similar, with an option that at present is likely to be marked "charge" or similar. Tap it and you should see a list of options drop down and then select the appropriate one. According to the MobileRead Wiki, your device should read the microSD card okay - the 302 will accept up to 64 GB. Have you tried looking at the Settings... About Device, to see what it thinks you have available? What of Settings... Maintenance... Format SD Card? Cheers, |

Hi,
I found the Setting...Connectivity...USB and it was already set to PC Link. Tried connecting it again and suddenly it worked. ![]() Haven't tried the SD card again, that's plugged directly into my laptop right now so I can just load everything that way. I'll try putting it into the PB302 later to see if it recognizes it now. I'll take a look where you suggested, Mick, if I still have problems but I doubt I'll let the PB302 try to format it. Toward the end my old ebookwise insisted on reformatting pretty much every memory card I put in it and none of them worked anywhere else after that. Since then I've been leery of letting any reader format a memory card. Thanks for everyone's help! ![]() |

I haven't paid much attention to the sd card for a while and stored my books on internal memory.
However I noticed of late that the SD card is very unreliable. As I have now a collection of books that exceeds the internal storage capacity, I have a usage for the SD expansion. But the PB302 seems to corrupt the FAT of the SD and after that the SD seems to be empty. I tried many things with several cards. Reformatting with the Pioneer SD Formatter and even tried a new 4GB class 4 card. To no avail. Within a couple of hours of usage, the reader shows no books on the SD, and this state cannot be reversed by me. Trying to read the SD on my PC through the reader often shows a corrupted directory. Also the above settings for PC connection is set on my reader as advised. I'm on firmware 15.2 and am reluctant to use 15.3b or 15.4b as they are both beta firmware. I can read the books in internal memory without problems, so I can only hope that the next firmware will solve this particular problem. Otherwise I can't really fault the PB302, and am still happy for using it. Got a second one for the wife and she's happy with hers too. Anyway, if anyone knows how to solve this problem I'd like to hear ![]() Last edited by joepie; 06-22-2011 at 10:33 AM. |
