If you buy a book from B&N, directly, can you read it on a Sony? what part of my statement is not right as per your assessment? Because as far as I know, the DRM implementation B&N uses is not the same for regular DRM/ePubs you buy from other companies like Sony. |

You can, however, go ahead and read your ebook on the Pandigital Novel just fine. And as more companies use the current Adobe DRM SDK, more readers will be able to read them. Companies will have to actively go out of their way to not support the format. |

So in the future, if any one feels Amazon is soulless corporation, they should contact Cupertino and see if the contract has an escape clause to get the soul back. |

What a joke. "As more companies..." You're really using some possible future situation as a benefit? Oh, then Kindle is totally superior....because when Adobe changes their DRM again...or when Kindle adds ADE support... Cuz that's all far more likely than the "Pandigital Novel" option actually mattering to anyone. ApK |

*Answer: Just like the Kindle book owners, they'll cope just fine, because this 'lock in' is non-issue that actually effects just about nobody on either side. |

It is really silly keep arguing about formats when we all know the issue is not that but the DRM implementation.
For a regular novel or book without images or complex layout, they both (mobi and ePub) serve well as ebook format. Without companies putting restrictions on top of that, people would be able to buy from any company, regardless of the ebook reader they bought or have. But again, it's about business and money and of course, Sony and B&N are not the exception. Imagine a CD (same one) being sold by Sony, Amazon and B&N, but won't play unless you buy the company's player. It's basically the same. They want you to buy ebooks from their store, to make more money! Last edited by jocampo; 06-20-2011 at 11:14 AM. |

This has long since ceased to be even remotely funny. I enjoy (heated) technology debates in thread and forum appropriate locations, but I will approach the mods about possible harassment if you continue to do it any and everywhere I post. Thanks in advance for making the change to keep the peace between us. |

so, I assume the best option is to have a multipurpose device where you can simply download or pay for the required software and be done with it? Like my smartphone, where I have ePub readers, a Kindle app, a Nook app etc?
