Another less gruesome favorite is Salmon Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories:

What a great topic! Some of my favourite covers are from sci-fi paperbacks from the 60s and 70s. If anyone is into cover art, then the book "Fantasy of the 20th Century" by Randy Broecker might interest you.

I really like when a publisher commissions similar art for a series of books, like in the Chandler covers posted above. Other favourites are the Tom Swift Jr. covers from the 50s and 60s, the "Lone Wolf and Cub" cover art, and the covers for the Turkish translations of Lem's works http://english.lem.pl/gallery/category/32-iletisim I can't figure out how to embed an image without a URL, so I'll just attach a couple of images of covers that I like. |

Image too large - MODERATOR i was going to buy a used copy, but when i realized that the copies with that cover were rather expensive, i might just buy a new one, lol ;D i also like this cover a lot, but it's a bit racy so it's going under a spoiler tag: Spoiler:

Will you read a book becuase you like the cover art? Its not enough to get me interested however the cover art might get me to read the back cover synopsys, however it will not get me to read the book.

Well, you have to know that the book exists before you can decide whether you want to read it or not. The cover is there to draw your attention to that particular book among the many others around it. So, it may not be the final piece of information, but it's an important part of the choosing process.
