Personally I hope it's not a new generation of eReaders as I have only just got my 650!!

I really can't justify buying another one so soon.

Isn't it great that there are so many readers out there that people love and consider the best? Imagine how horrible it would be if we only had one.

Agreed! And although I have so far preferred the Sony readers, that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate other models as well. I'd love to have the new Kobo as a backup reader, or a Kindle.

I never take seriously any eBook or eReader article written by someone who has ink stains on his/her fingers.
The problem with these reviews is that they don't ever seem to get it right. They review everything but the most important things of all. The software for actually displaying the eBooks. That is quite important and yet they leave it out. We already know that all the IR touch screen readers are better (hardware) then the Kindle. But if the software for displaying eBooks is not that good, then it doesn't matter how good the hardware is.

Why the Kobo and not the NookSTR? PDF support? I was wondering myself which one I'd get in case (*doingtheevileye*) anything would happen to my Sony. Just as a mental exercise as I could buy another 350 any day here, but still: Which one would one choose... Combined they are a 650, each on its own--- difficult.

Which features of the 650 do the Kobo and Nook have each? I don't need the storage card nor audio, but the 350 seems a little small to me.

Best to have a look here onto the Kobo comparison chart.

Meanwhile I try to recall what I've read here on the boards.

The Nook does not good with PDFs, has no landscape but six different fonts. The Kobo seems to do better with PDFs but has only two fonts.

Both have wifi. Nook has some social features incorporated. Something about braggin what you read on facebook...

Indeed! This is the right attitude to have IMO. Internecine rivalries are so silly...

I don't think they are silly. We spent a lot of time researching for our readers and feel we made the best decision to be made and this is what we want to give those looking for a new reader.

For me this just mirrors a deep care for others, you want to keep them from spending money on what you think would be a mistake.

Actually I like it when people here get protective about "their" company.

The Kobo seems to have better PDF support than the Nook, and can support more file types: mobi, cbr, cbz, txt, and rtf, as well as epub and pdf. The PDF zoom seems like it is well implemented on their device, and they can do landscape PDFs (although I should probably load up a micro sd card and try out some books on a Kobo next time I go to Chapters, to get a feel for usage in real life). Also, I would rather support a Canadian company (with a great bookstore). The Nook isn't even sold in Canada, and I don't see anything about the device that would make me want to pull missions to get it over a Kobo, which I can buy at several locations within walking distance of my house. Not to be shallow, but it has some really nice leather covers from Roots, too... I can't say that I don't squeal over them a little bit when I see them at the bookstore
I might pick up one of the leather "envelope" cases for my Sony readers, though.

My thoughts also and Kobo did already upgrade the FW addressing some of the issues people had with it.
