On the other hand, they are out of stock, have been out of stcok and 2 to 3 additional months of this shortage sounds too much. This makes me think that there is a good possibility of something happening within a short timespan. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
It would make some marketing sense coming out now with an upgraded lineup. I.e.- Ride the wave of Kobo & Nook STR before amazon gets it's next generation Kindle out. |

[SARCASM ON]
We all know that Consumer Reports is the ABSOLUTE authority on eReaders! We often go to the Consumer Reports to get our scoop on what's what in the world of eReaders and eBooks. [SARCASM OFF] These are the same guys who just rated the new Nook Touch over the Kindle. I seriously doubt they even know that much about either model, much less have the expertise to make a valid comparison based on what the people who read eBooks need and want in an eBook reader. I never take seriously any eBook or eReader article written by someone who has ink stains on his/her fingers. |

I would rate the new Nook Touch above the Kindle as well. Not sure why that is any sort of indication as to their ability to evaluate e-readers. It's a better reader than the Kindle, and, other than Kindle fanboys, most everyone sees that.

It's a better reader for some type of users, others prefer the Kindle.
I am happy with my Sony, which is why I am on the Sony part of the forum :P |

I am happy with my Sony as well, however, the new Nook, with it's touch screen and myriad other upgrades, is without question, an upgraded reader to any Kindle presently out there. And, I own all of these machines (Nook STR, K3, PB 360+, PRS-350, and PRS-950).
The point is not whether or not the Nook is better, however. The point is that the fact that Consumer Reports rated the new Nook above the K3 is certainly no proof that they don't know what they are talking about. I DO know what I'm talking about, and I feel the same way. It's all subjective in the end, however. |

Yes, I do tend to think that it's best having reviewers who actually uses the given type of products so all the important aspects gets covered.
Something that's apparantly hard to get with E-readers since it's a niche product. We should have a review squad on mobileread ![]() |

Would you believe them more than you do believe Japes, Leyor? May I ask why? Official title maybe? I herewith officially call Japes a reviewer! Is he more credible now, Leyor? |

I usually prefer my reviews with a little more meat on them than "is good is nice"! Even if it's conducted by the Royal Head Reviewer Cum laude, Japes the Magnificent. Although I humbly beg his highness forgiveness and would love to be the first reader for some comparative reviews, since that's really something we're missing for e-readers in this humble posters opinion. ![]() |

![]() Not sure who THEY are, but I just felt like sharing some links. I am a Sony and Nook owner, and I'm a fanboy of neither. The Kindle is a great device. You seemed to use CR's preference for the Nook STR as an evidential trait speaking to their lack of qualifications. I just felt like sharing the opinions of some reviewers who I feel we can agree are qualified (although I am assuming), and showing that they share a similar opinion. This, at the very least, should demonstrate that sharing this opinion does not automatically remove one's clue. Whether or not CR's tech reviewers actually have clues, I don't know. Because I don't know the specific men or women behind the editorial masks. Sincerely, Critical Thinker ![]() Quote:

You indicated that they didn't know what they were talking about BECAUSE they rated the Nook STR higher than the Kindle, which flies directly in the face of what you are indicating here. My point wasn't that the Nook is better (although I own both and feel that it is, without question, a superior reader). My point was that, whether or not Consumer Reports knows what they are talking about has nothing to do with the fact they rated the new Nook above the Kindle. Edited to add: I just read OrganicJerk right above (after I posted this) and, we are BOTH saying the exact same thing. That the Barnes and Noble Nook STR is a superior device to the Kindle is an opinion shared by MANY, including myself (who owns them both, among others). You used this opinion as proof that they didn't know what they were talking about. I don't know whether they know what they were talking about or not, but, this isn't proof of anything, as it's an opinion shared by many. Last edited by Japes; 06-19-2011 at 08:17 AM. |
