I got this off another board, but the article is also here at Mobile Reads. BUT go to the last paragraph in this article. If they are correct, then Sony may be coming up with a new reader device to be announced this month. What do you all think?

Very interesting comment. That would explain what looks like a clearing of inventory that usually happens a bit later in the year.

If true, I will still be interested in seeing how they get back market with retailers that have got fed up with them.
Or all the people who have vowed never to buy another Sony reader - or. indeed in some instances on the European Sony Forum, anything Sony !

Unless of course it's all some cunning marketing plan between Sony & suppliers to
fool us all.......

Interesting, thats uplifting news if the source is credible.
Hope they havent lost too much credibiity + points of sales at this point.

I dream of a successfull Sony eco system.

And I'm hoping they aren't talking about that tablet instead of a new e-ink. Time will tell. They are a frustrating company for sure.

Let's see what they come up with. Definitely a life or death decision for them regarding the US market. I hope they come with a competitive pricing structure.

Tablets are hot. I bet they are either doing that or a budget e ink reader.

A reminder that this post Aug 12 2010 on another site -- http://www.sonyinsider.com/2010/08/1...s-coming-soon/ -- had more or less the right inside scoop on the 2010 Sony models. The new Touch Screen wasn't quite nailed; and they over-reached on memory and wifi; but they did confirm there would BE new ereaders, and that they were incremental (x50) releases -- and only the 300 and 600 series.

Maybe we should be keeping an eye out there this summer as well.

They already announced tablets for the fall. I bet this is a new e-ink reader! Squee!

I hope they continue the e-reader line. I really love mine... and more especially, I love the 7" screen, which no one else seems to offer. Although the prices are tough... I am one that will pay a premium to get a device that does what I need. As much as I read, having a reader that fits *me* is more important than just price. The enjoyment factor will make the higher price worthwhile.

However, it's certainly early days in my ownership yet. I hope though, to use this reader for some time to come. Unless of course, Sony puts out something I like even better, in which case, a backup reader is never a bad thing. I'm finding I like having two readers, actually!

I wouldn't consider this news. The new readers announcement may be forthcoming, but if history is any guide, in early September rather than within a month. If the article's author really has some scoop, we should have received the news of it from other sources. Normally we hear about the expected event from those invited, even if they don't share with us the details of what they are invited to.

The Consumer Reports author may be confusing the new generation of readers with the Android tablets Sony has been teasing the public about.

Yeah I speculated about that earlier. I'm hoping they didn't get it confused. But whether it is this month or in a couple of months I'm hoping they are correct about an e-reader.
