For some reason, I am not having a ghosting problem this morning. I wish I knew why. Yesterday it was truly annoying--and it bothered me more and more as I read into the night.

went to pick up a case for the new touch yesterday because i was sad to find that the one for my wifi is too big.
well i purchased a new sleeve for the touch and it's super tight, very hard to get the kt in and out of this sleeve, hopefully the leather just needs to stretch after a couple of uses but i think they made it just a tad too small. |

While this is not an android machine... it is strictly speaking a reader thats all it does. It does not play music, games, movies or video chat. It does the one thing i bought it for and it does it very well. It displays my books with its e-ink display. It does not need a fast processor as that would eat the battery away. IT does not have a back-lit display again that would kill the battery. It does not make fancy noises to get my attention, that would be annoying as heck, and it would eat the battery. Eink technology is not designed for fast refresh rates, its not designed for kick ass graphics so it seems to me that some people have too much high expectations from things. The kobo runs on linux and it runs on it well. The battery life is good, the display is crisp and efficient. The look size weight is nice. I tried the very first kobo release and was not happy with it. I tested in the store the kobo wifi and was not happy with it. I tested the kobo touch, i tested the sony ereader lines, the curtis ereaders and they what i found is all ereaders preety much do the same thing. The sony was bulky, and well to be fair it was heavy. The display really was not impressive, the refresh rate well its nothing i was ever worried about as im reading a book. Bottom line is the KOBO Touch right now is the best one out there. So do your research on Eink and see where that leads you too. right now Eink tech works exactly as one would expect it too in all ereaders. I am actually wondering if you actually have the KOBO touch or not. It doesnt matter much though because like any thing else its just an opinion and an opinion is not the gospal of truth its just a version that you create to justify soemthing to oneself thats all. regards |

Tablets are still the best hands down at reading most PDFs, but after reading on the Touch, I can see possibilities about how it can excel. It's a lot easier on the eyes, which makes it a great study tool. I've been toying with the idea of formatting rtfs so that they act like flash cards on the go since a tablet is too bulky to carry around, and it's not very good under the sun (adam included). |

So far, I have almost 600 epub files to load to the reader. When got first iteration of the device, it took almost 45 minutes to process about 200 files. Did it change with touch? If the processing time is similar, I'd load some epubs now, some tomorrow, some... Do you have some estimation how long you had it waiting? Best regards all. |

Of course the upside is, like the old kobo, it only has to process once for the added books, and will only do it afterwards for newly added books. |

These are the figures I found for weight on Mobileread wiki: Kindle: Weight: 8.7 ounces (247 grams) Sony: Weight: 7.58 oz (215 grams) Nook Touch:Weight: 7.48 ounces (212g) Kobo Touch: Weight: 200g According to this, the Kindle is the heaviest of the lot! I'm very surprised. |

Maybe you can fix that with a custom font? Admittedly the Kindle out of the box font is the best. But customization fixes that in no time.

I had the ghosting problem too and now my touch goes black
Taming I hope your touch doesn't do the same as mine. I have had the ghosting problem you have mentioned (though I haven't seen the issue for a couple of days now) and tried to turn it on this morning and it would not turn on. The blue light flashed briefly and then nothing. I had 50-60% charge left when I turned it off last night so didn't think it could be dead battery but plugged it in anyway. Tried turning it on again and still nothing, left it plugged in for a few minutes and tried to turn it on again, flashed a couple of times and then black screen. Tried resetting it, still the same, flashes a couple of times and then black screen. Tried again about 15 minutes later and now seems to be working again so maybe the battery was dead but the icon for the battery is displaying about 75% charge now so if the battery was dead then there is something wrong with the battery charge indicator. I have no idea what is going on with this thing, I think I might go back to using my Kobo wifi if the problems with the Touch continue like this.

I would exchange your Touch for another one, Jim. My problem was not the same, but perhaps related. Sameer and I wrote back and forth a bit about it, and we decided I should send it to him so that he could get to actually test a Touch that malfunctioned in the way mine did. Kobo sent me out a replacement.
They missed the overnight cut off, so I will be using my WiFi Kobo until Monday. Wow, it feels heavy, slow, and awkward to hold, in comparison. |

No surprised at all, considering it has a full hardware keyboard; once they drop that (and I'm sure they will in their next version), it probably be very comparable to the kobo and nook touch. The lightest of them though is actually the Sony pocket edition, wich comes in about 160g or so if I remember right, but of course it's a 5" screen. |
