Amazon account to buy books...

HI all, I just ordered a Kindle 3. I know that I will need an Amazon account to register my kindle so that I will be able to buy books. I currently have an Amazon account that I use to order Amazon merchandises. Is this the same account that I will use to register my kindle or can I create a new Amazon account and use that to register my kindle? Thanks. -mike- |

You could create a second account - but it's much more convenient to use your main one.

Your Kindle is likely already on your current account...you can check here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/digital/fi...#manageDevices If you have books already purchased (free or otherwise) on your current account, they cannot be transferred to another one. |

Thank you all, I appreciate your help. I'm still waiting for it to arrive next week. I hope the screen contrast is better than the Kindle 2 I evaluated as I have never seen a Kindle 3. TimW, you are right. I just checked and there is a Kindle serial number on my account, even though I haven't received my Kindle. By the way, will I get any free books that come with a Kindle purchase? Last edited by motorcyclist; 06-18-2011 at 09:21 PM. |

You can check the freebies forum here for free books. Or check this little page at Amazon for some other links to free stuff.

There are a lot of interesting free books at Amazon for Kindle though and of course a good selection of books here at MR as well.

Amazon set up your Kindle with your account information - at least that's what they did for me, and I didn't have to do anything but turn it on and play.

Look for books in either MOBI or PRC format.

To second the suggestion by Chamekke, I was going to even suggest that you order some free books from Amazon itself (using the free Kindle books forum or Amazon to track books) and have them sent to your Kindle (since it is showing in your account) immediately. This way you'll have a book to read immediately or even have it appear there once your network (Wifi or 3G) are connected.

There are lots of other options for free books as well, including the Baen Free Library and The Fifth Imperium Baen CD site. If you're interested in SF, these are two excellent sources for free eBooks. Or, as the authors themselves say "Free eBook crack". |

Thank you so much for all your help. I went ahead and ordered some free books and games on Amazon. Yesterday when I received my kindle, as soon as I turned it on, I got all of them transferred automatically to my new K3! Excellent.
