It's the same pixel density as the current iPhone 4: 320 (or whatever it is) pixels per inch.

Wow. I would love to see an iPad with that resolution screen, but I don't think that Apple would release another iPad so quickly. Perhaps next year.

I'll believe it when I see it too. Exact doublings makes more sense to me in terms of the ease of upscaling older apps. I'm also thinking higher resolution is going to be a battery drain but who knows, these chip sets keep getting insanely efficient.

I have been holding off on an iPad for my living room hoping to see a resolution bump. Maybe the next revision is the one that hooks me.

Except that release cycle has already been shaken up this year; no new iPhone in June, for example, but rumoured to be announced in September. Also, iPad sales were huge over Christmas last year, so a September announcement would also make sense for iPad 3. Whatever, it'll happen when it happens <shrug>

FWIW my money's still on a hi-res 7" iPod Touch Plus for a September launch...

June isn't over yet. Typically Apple does end of the month events, so no proof that the schedule has been skewed.

Not entirely. 2.5 wouldnt scale as nice as an even number. If you had an item 55 pixels wide, do you scale it to 137.5 pixels wide?

How come? the Droid X is 4.3" with 227.8 ppi. When we're talking not a full pixel, I think half a pixel is a better proportion than 8/10ths of a pixel.

Devices like that can be great for remote control of other systems, or for showing extra info during sporting events, or for streaming video to the TV.

Hmmm... how so? I get that I can order a movie "online" then stream it to my TV as in Netflix, and I think I might be able to do that through Xfinity, but how would I stream something directly off of my iPad to the tv?

air play to a connected apple tv.

but... since you have Xfinity you can use the Xfinity TV app to actually access the guide, look at previews, change the channel and even order an on demand program.

Many devices now support something called DLNA, for streaming from media devices, or computers, to other media devices or computers. I use it all the time. I have a 1 terabyte hard drive on my desktop that I store podcasts, movies, and TV shows on, and using a program called miniDLNA, I have it streamed to the TVs in my house. It works out quite nice, I make a copy of my DVDs and such and put them away so they're not taking up a bunch of room in my apartment, and just pull them up where ever I want. Also is cool, since I have a TV tuner card, I can have my computer be a TV, recording what I want, and not be restricted on where I watch it. Hell, there are times I tunnel in to my home network and stream stuff from there while at work.

In the case of the iPad, you can buy stuff from iTunes, and stream it to your TV as well using the same sort of system. Not to mention that there are ways to use it as a universal remote.

I don't have Apple TV, but am thinking about getting a Roku for the TV in my kitchen. That's assuming I can stream from my HDD via DLNA as well. I'll have to look into the Xfinity app. I have it downloaded, but really haven't looked at it since everything I want can be accessed directly from the TV. I only see the benefit of using it when I'm not in front of my TV, which is what I thought it was for.

I use DLNA all the time. Two of my 3 HDD's on my PC are dedicated for media only since they take up so much space. I also use DLNA to access stuff from my netbook, laptop and Droid, but as far as I know, I cant access my iPad from my TVs. How do you use it as a universal remote? I've heard of doing that with Android but thought it couldn't be done w/ an iPad unless you have Apple TV.
