Yes, they do have to Kobo app after all. Who's to say B&N ever submitted their app?

As for Netflix it's only available (officially) on like eight devices so far.

just sayin
I wasn't specifically comparing iOS to Android 2.2's performance on my phone. That would be a little foolish. I've played with newer builds of Android on newer phones and read a lot about them, since I'm going to be upgrading to a 'real' Android phone eventually (or just maybe a shiny new Amazon tablet ) , and it's still not there yet. It's closer for sure, but iOS is still more stable, with a slicker interface and more apps.

Kobo is in Amazon's app store. And Netflix pays Amazon for backend stuff, so they get paid either way. I think it is just that app publishers haven't gotten around to filling out the paperwork.

Do you think B&N would accept the Kindle app in their app store?

No, why would they? B&N's "app store" has very few apps and is currently locked to a single device.

Amazon's appstore on the other hand is trying to be a true app store providing for all devices (well, in the US and except for AT&T anyway).

For that matter Aldiko is setup for folks to buy from Books On Board, All Romance, O'reilly, Feedbooks and Smashwords. Granted, not big competitors, but competitors none the less. That's not to say Amazon rejected a B&N app, just that it's not a given that they did.

So I can read Kindle books on my Nook Color.

Not quite; otherwise, they'd have apps from major competitors like Netflix and Nook.

Just like B&N doesn't want me reading Kindle books on their tablet, Amazon doesn't want me reading Nook books on their tablet.

But they are allowing apps from other competitors. If they were going to block competing apps, they'd block ALL.

No, but then again, B&N isn't trying to run a full app store for all devices.

I doubt that, considering the nook app is only available through the official market. It isn't in SlideME, or any of the other third party markets. I don't think that B&N submitted it. If they were submitting to non "Android Marketplace" markets, it would be in other markets. There are a lot of tablets out there that do not have the official marketplace enabled (due to the manufacturer's being cheap bastards and not wanting to pay the license to allow for google apps, including market access), and B&N is missing out on all of them.

Not necessarily. How about blocking the major threats?

It'll be a moot point if the new Kindle tablet has access to the Android Market.

I still say otherwise. Amazon goes to all this trouble to open up a large Android appstore and then doesn't lock their device to it? Then what was the point if people just go elsewhere for apps?

Now, if the tablet is locked, then it makes perfect sense for Amazon to lock out their biggest competitor in the ebook market - B&N.

B&N goes to a great deal of trouble to get the Nook app out to all major systems and devices. It's on the iPad, iPhone, Android, PC, Mac, and Blackberry. Why would they not want it on a major competitor like the Kindle tablet?

And these other appstores account for what percent of the market?

Does this look like Amazon are now taking on the iPad, rather than Kobi, Sony,Nook etc.. ?

There isn't such an animal as an Amazon computer, is there ?

Yet........

If I was going to hazzard a guess, I would predict Amazon announces and expands "kindle" family to beyond just only ereaders. , either this summer or fall

My predictions is an eink kindle ebook reader which will be a Nook STR clone
and two Kindle Tablets

I'm telling ya, Amazon is not going to release a new eInk dedicated ereader if Touch is the only enhancement over the last generation.

A Kindle is a dedicated reader. There's almost no likelihood that a color tablet will have "Kindle" stamped on it.

A dedicated reader that also has games, music player and a browser, right? Maybe they want to go for special offers on a film if you also buy the book it was based on.
