It might not be the Cybook at all...you might just have a bum battery. I'd expect Bookeen to send you a replacement battery first before having you send the whole thing back.

Yeah I'm thinking it might be the battery too.

In any case, I just wanted to get the return procedure for NAEB customers. Never hurts to just know; the info might come in handy in the future.

binzer, do you mean, email bookeen support or NAEB? I have already sent en email to shop@naebllc.com but I haven't received anything from them yet. I was hoping Derek would answer my question here.

Never Fear! WonderDerek is Here!

And WonderDerek says: Put in a return request to support@bookeen.com. Yep. We're too small to have in-house repairs at this time and shipping to us and then having us ship to Bookeen, and reverse upon repair, adds too much time to the process.

Thanks for the info Derek.

I've had two more replies from Bookeen. One was the reflash instructions (which unfortunately can't be used as I have to be able to turn the cybook on to reflash the unit) and the second email said the following:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try to:
- recharge your Cybook;
- reset your Cybook and switch it on;
- unplug the battery, wait for 10 seconds, replug the battery (red wire towards the bottom) and switch it on.

We hope this will help.

Regards,
Bookeen Support Team

Bookeen - www.bookeen.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, useless since I can't "switch it on".

So now I'm just waiting on Bookeen to tell me what to do next

I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps you might want to take a 'modified' approach. Follow their instructions regarding unplugging the battery, leaving it disconnected for 10 seconds and then re-connecting it. Then try to follow their instructions to the letter. Perhaps that might cause enough of a 'hard' reset for everything to settle down.

But I'd still start the process for getting an RMA number so it can be returned.

Thanks posting Derek! I totally overlooked the fact that I had to request an RMA! Done that, now just waiting ... feels like I've been doing a lot of waiting for the Cybook

There's one big advantage of buying the Sony at Walmart... DOA returns are not a problem.

That's one big advantage of buying anything at wal mart. I fervently hope that by the time I need a new ebook reader, I will have a selection (yes, a selection) to choose from at my local wal mart.

Sharone: best of luck, I hope you get a good one soon.

There is only one problem with that. It will cost me about 2*20 hours travelling and $800 to go to a Wallmart. If I go to Paris I'll have to travel through three countries, but it takes only a couple off hours, costs 70 Euro and I don't need a visa.

the iLiad is a great reader. It is expensive and the battery life is shorter than some others but it has some of the best reading software available on any reader. It has a good mobipocket reader. It support FBreader. It has the best PDF readers of any e-ink device. Where did you hear it was a bad reader?

That's the advantage of living in the US, you are never more than a 10 minute drive from your nearest Walmart... Wait... What?

Well my reader made once the checkered screen, I hadn't seen that the battery was empty and I went on reading, and suddenly the screen became garbled, after reseting it I got the checkered screen. I thought that was it it's gone.
I took the battery out to take a look at it, than put it back and left the cybook connected to the usb, on the next day it was working.
