Like you said each to their own..

The only reason I like to have a main author for some books is when it comes to a series. I really hate seeing in say a stephen donaldson folder 5 of 7 books from a series there but due to naming the other two are found in a different directory.

While Calibre is running its not an issue but I like to see them in one spot.

I liken it to having a chess set - all the pieces are on the board except for say two sitting somewhere else.

Great having this conversation - good to see what others are doing and how there going about their cataloguing.

Cheers

As long as all the Thomas Covenant series shows up in Calibre, I'm a happy bunny.
I know I've got it, and I know how easy it is to get to. If Calibre messes up, I know I can just do a search via Win Explorer and all the Unbeliever books, complete with his white gold ring will show up.

Actually, I'm still unsure what to do with "short stories" I seem to have collected a few, and am not that keen on them bulking out my main Library, but I do want access to them should I start reading a lot of that particular Author.
I may be tempted to move collections, anthologies and short stories, novelette and novellas to a separate Library....what U think?

What I'm also not sure how to do yet, is say I have a folder of books, and I'm not sure I already have some of them or not in my Library, or a friend gives me a list of books he can lend me, there does not seem to be a way to compare your library and a list....

To find books with more than one author, use
Code:
authors:#>1
You can also build save-to-disk templates that will use only the first author by using template functions. I don't have time to put together an example at the moment, but it will involve manipulating lists.

Oh g'day Chaley,

Hey would love to see an example of that when you get some time that would save a penny of time not deleting authors and doing other funny things.

Very curious to see how you work around that.

Thank you for the time and the other tip as well.

Cheers.

Not sure - I'm probably the worst person to ask for assistance - I've more got ideas about what I want to do rather than how to go about it.

It is a good idea though and would be handy to do a compare to list and having multiple libraries.

I've thought about a strict fiction non fiction library as well - even though you can separate them by tags.

I'm sure one of the readers here will know if you can do a list to library compare...

Cheers..

Code:
{authors:list_item(0,&)}
produces the first (or only) author. Use it in the template where you want only one name.
