I do not think you should return it and get another, since, as several have said in this thread, it seems like that's the way the Touch works right now. It seems very unlikely that your device is at fault, and you're liable to get one that has worse ghosting problems, IMHO. If you want to verify this for yourself, you could do as I did (see above) - go to the store and compare it to the display model. It looked the same to me, with relatively poor-looking text sometimes.

I'm glad I'm not alone here. I compared my Nook with the Kindle 3 and the text is very noticeably fuzzier and the ghosting is much worse. I don't have any noticeable ghosting on my Kindle while reading, whereas the Nook can go from really bad to annoying. I found at one point that it wasn't refreshing at all! I had to reset it to get it to work properly. I am experiencing both issues: ghosting of letters and fuzzy/uneven text. It really is disappointing since, compared with the Kindle, it is much harder to read. |

I really think it's just the way B&N wrote their reader software to render fonts. I'll probably try and get the Kindle app installed on my nook and look at how it renders text. From the youtube video I saw it looked rather crisp. If it's just a software problem I imagine it will get fixed. |

No way. The youtube video that first showed the Kindle app on the Touch looked quite clear (I watched it in 1080p). I can't believe that it's actually worse. Oh well. I only notice the font "smoothing" if I'm outside in the sun or if I hold the Nook too close to my eyes. They'll either fix this in some updates or I'll buy the Kindle Touch when it comes out at the end of the year. Either way my Nook Touch gets me by. It's my first eInk reader and I'm not tied into any store's ecosystem so I can easily swap back and forth thanks to easy Calibre conversion. |

Ok, I think it may have been a bug. I rebooted the Nook and opened the Kindle app. It looks really good. Still not as good as the Kindle itself, but very close. I am guessing it must be a font issue. No font in the Nook store looks as crisp as the Kindle app font.

I too have had the ghosting issue. One thing to note, is that the screen refreshes do not fix this issue. Turning the nook off and then on again fixes this issue, and I have also seen it get fixed by letting the unit sit for long time. Attached is a picture of the issue. |

That really is bad... and odd. The faint ghosting I notice on my Touch is usually slightly darker than the screen colour; your ghosting seems... inverted: ghosting is lighter than the screen colour.

Your unit looks defective. That's not the ghosting we're talking about. Return it ASAP.

For those experiencing the severe ghosting, does pressing the "n" button twice get rid of it?

I've had something similiar to that happen to me on my old iPhone 3Gs reboot did the trick. Last edited by boswd; 06-16-2011 at 01:58 PM.
