One man's rudeness is another man's friendly banter.

True, but typically banter is with someone, not about someone.

The first time I was going to say something (there were a couple of times I started and cancelled -- I'm no one's mother, after all), I made a reference to the repeated crossing of the line between friendly teasing and hostile mocking. But whatever; my students are always "only kidding", too.

hate is the new black on the internet. i don't think there's a strong enough e-community that could be immune to it. that said, hermes seems to be the type of poster that's hard to "get" at first, but the better posters usually are.

My posts were. I won't presume to speak for anyone else.

That said, having a twisted sense of humor myself, I seriously doubt that anyone who posts like that is unaware that they are inviting ridicule, or care too much about it. But sure, I can stop if it bothers you. It's not like anything on the internet should be taken seriously anyway.

Really, thanks because I was starting to feel like the odd man out... too many people on these forums are taking his trolling seriously.

Bah, he's not trolling. Not in my opinion anyway. Rambling perhaps, or posting semi-coherent nonsense... but trolling? Nah.

I don't think so, either. I think he's just a natural eccentric. Perhaps that's indicative of the circles I've wandered through in my 39 years on this earth.

True. I'm just used to a certain level of civility in the forums I frequent. I know I'm a little old fashioned, but.... .... Ahem... Excuse me, there seem to be some kids on my lawn. I think I have to go tell them what I think of that.

Hermes, have you considered buying a clay tablet? It does not hold any fingerprints, given it is a dried one and you can pay cash for it. The content is a bit hard to refresh and new book upload is not as easy as Amazons wifi system, but OTOH it is not as easily traced as the Kindle.

If this is not what you are looking for, I suggest having a close look at the countless books written in the sand of the Sahara. They constantly change topics and will engage your mind for quite a while. They are not traceable, neither with new nor with old technologies and the lack of water will make it hard for anyone to follow you when you go out to find a new book.

Hope this helps

But can it read PDFs and library books?

Librarys tend to make you sign in with your REAL adress. And they make sure you play no tricks on them by having a look at your IDcard. This is not a game for the weak of heart or Hermes.

As for PDF's you will have to ask your local dealer. I think they are banned in certain countries but have a wide following in Goa where they subsitute LSD nowadays.

Or for those who have never faked an ID before. Not that I would know anything about that at all, of course. Nothing at all.

My local dealer says no PDF support on their models, so I guess no clay tablets for me. I'll have to stick with the 950 for now, until the clay tablets catch up, I guess. Oh well.
