My lighted Kindle cover gives much better light than the one in the photo above. I would return that one pdq. I bought it particularly for the lighted option. I have a PRS 505 which does not have a light and any light I have tried has been awful.

The other thing that I like about the PRS 700 is that when the screen light is turned on, it's a really warm inviting light. My reading lights, and the light wedge all have very cool lights, which I don't enjoy as much. In truth, I think part of the reason that the 700 looks so warm even though it's LED's is because the screen is so muted. It's flaw when the light is off, is it's strength when the light is on.

I think a back-light would be the best alternative as long as you could turn it off during the day or outdoors. I'm guessing the color Kindle will have a back-light when it arives. I sure hope they make it thicker and longer too. And if they made it read epub, that would be ideal. I made a mock-up for it in my review. I think if they made it longer like this so you'd have a place to put your thumb, that would help significantly. It would also move the page turn buttoms up and out of the way a little (though they'd be much better off nearer to the top), and boy do they need to do that. I like the way my Kindle works, but ergomonically it's a mess. They really need to revamp this thing in a big way. I mean, really, what fool would design an e-reader so that the sides of your hands rest right smack on the page turn buttons? It's insane. But most e-readers do this. There's just no common sense in these designs at all. ![]() Last edited by Ransom; 06-13-2011 at 12:07 PM. |

The perfect e-book light...
I just started a search for a new light for my trusty Kindle 2. Unfortunately, I must agree with all the previous complaints of added weight and poor light placement.
My ideal is a light that is bright with an adjustable light intensity, spread and focus. It should also have the option of AC (with a long cord) as well as a commonly available battery type and a count-down, shut-off timer to tell me when to go to sleep. I'd pay real money for this device. Unfortunately, it looks like I must settle for a light wedge or a lighted cover. Is there a designer/manufacturer out there who might want to do us all a service and make money at the same time??? |

If you're not the sort of consumer who'd buy it anyway, then why are you so committed to the PRS-750's nonexistence?
Two people on this thread have said they liked the idea. Where's the harm in their dreaming? If they want to lobby for such a device, why would their doing so have any effect on you at all? Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 06-13-2011 at 09:28 PM. |

get the nook color. if you put your eyes through 2+ years with one of the worst consumer electronics ever made, i think you can handle the eyestrain from lcd.

I really like the idea that the reader powers the light. I think the Kindle lighted cover is a great idea. It is one less thing that I have to buy batteries for or have a charger for.

But since you wouldn't be buying that device yourself, since Sony doesn't simply produce a single model for a given generation, and since the people who want a debugged and updated 700 aren't asking for the 700's defects, their desires seem legitimate to me. You and I can lobby for different kinds of readers. That won't be affected by their lobbying for this one. Personally, I'd be happy for them if Sony listened. |
