Is the ghosting you're referring to like the ones in the pictures above or worse? The one in the pictures doesn't look that bad. It really could be a hardware issue...

I wanted to spend a descent amount of time on the device (indoor and outdoor) before chiming in. I haven't seen any ghosting or blurry text. I have noticed text left over from the previous screen when bringing the screen saver up once. At the top of the screen you could see remnants of the home screen (the screen I was on at the time). It hasn't been an issue for me, and I'm not willing to part with the present implementation of how pages are refreshed. I don't want to go back to the noticeable flashing after every page. Maybe there are some bad batches out there.

Can you return it? Try to get another one from a different batch.

These two things, combined with the lack of browser, is why I won't be getting this new Nook (despite the initial enthusiasm).
I was beginning to wonder if my eyes were extra sensitive because the flash of the page turn totally made me blink a few times when I looked at the display unit. I think it would just be too distracting if I was actually in the middle of reading something.

If they fix this flashier flash on page turn and the ghosting I will buy one. I'm going to hold off for now though.

Myself, when I'm reading a book, I'm thinking so much about the content and reading it that I do not at all notice what happens between page changes. I cannot argue whether more or less flashing is bothersome to people, but I do think that perhaps once you start using the device and not looking at the screen particulars themselves, you might stop noticing such things.

This idea does not mean I think that a person would stop noticing severe ghosting, because that affects the page itself and the letters you are reading. I'm just saying that page transitions become invisible to me after a few minutes and I don't even notice.

Same here. i know it is every 6 pages, but some times i wonder if it is longer because i dont recall seeing the flash. once you get into the book, the flashes and the device itself fade away. i havent touched my nook classic since i got str, these are worlds apart.

Well, I finally experienced horrific ghosting. No matter what screen I went to, the previous screen remained underneath. The only way to get rid of it was to power off and on.

I am sorry to read that! So was there something different about the content that you were reading now versus before? More images? Different fonts? More bold text?

Unit was charging (plugged into wall outlet). Unlocked screen, went to library and opened sideloaded book. Everything was fine. Went to select something from Table of Contents and then that's when it started.

Sounds like a bug. Ereaders have different refresh modes, depending on what you are doing, so your nook may have got stuck on the wrong refresh mode causing the ghosting, until you rebooted. hopefully a firmware update will sort it out.

Yikes! Well now we know why we are getting two types of complaints. I figured it had to be bad devices, but now it sounds like the bad ghosting can all of a sudden start on a nook that has been ok up till that point.

I suppose this might be good news to folks havimg the ghosting problem - I mean that it sounds like a fixable software bug, not a problem with their device.

I honestly haven't noticed the issues of ghosting and less crisp letters to a degree where I would notice to the point of voicing concern. Since getting it ten days ago I've already gone through most of Chandler's Marlowe books and am just starting The Long Goodbye, and while I have seen ghosting and sometimes the letters may not be 100% as dark as possible it has not affected my enjoyment of reading and of the device.

The full refresh every 5-6 pages may be why the battery last so long, so given that I haven't seen any ghosting or lack of crispness as to bother my reading I'm perfectly happy with those slight imperfections so as to have the battery life.

I agree I'd rather give up some display perfection to pick up battery life. Of course, like everything, it is a question of how much and how big a trade-off you want to make. I sure hope I don't run into this severe ghosting problem I'm hearing about, or at least only occasionally. I would think they will have a fix for it fairly soon...

I have been reading about the Kobo Touch and it seems it has the same problems that the nook with the ghosting. A kobo spokesman is saying that they will add a setting to adjust the refresh rate in their first software update. Hopefully, B&N will do the same. So it seems to be definitely software-related. I will hold on to my nook, I like it too much to give it up because of the ghosting and I am confident they will fix it.

My Touch has minimal ghosting, it is not an issue for me at all.

What is a bit of an issue is the fuzzy text. I think it may come down to the fact that some fonts are more curvy and need the subpixel hinting / aliasing. However if I hold my Nook too closely to my eyes it's plainly obvious the letters aren't crisp (I like my small, crisp text!).

Not sure if I should return it and buy another - B&N is on the walk home so it's not a hassle - but the new one could be worse.
