I'd love to flash my Nokia phone (almost all of the cell phones that I've had have been Nokia phones). I had no idea that you could do that!

Awesome. I'll poke my calibre to do .mobi files.
yeah flashing nokias is easy. Firmware from navifirm, flash w Phoenix. I've got different firmware on my N8 than it came with, though you can't change product code any more. best place to check is the S^3 forum at dailymobile.se for their flashing guide. do it right and you wont brick the phone... ![]() Last edited by leoniedelt; 06-13-2011 at 06:27 AM. The Kindle forum here at MR is where all us Kindle owners "hang out". Lots of useful info there!

From what I hear PDF to MOBI and PDF to EPub is normally very ugly. I would make sure you keep a copy of the original PDF before converting just in case they end up looking bad.

Leo,
Regarding covers for Kindle, I did a hunt around Ebay and got a couple delivered for under $10 each (4 pounds) - about 75% cheaper than amazon's covers from memory. Enjoy |

I've never fancied an eReader of any kind. Thought they'd all be a poor substitute for a real book.
I was wrong. My Kindle 3 is terrific. I don't like being locked in to Kindle format, but that's easily solved with Calibre, which converts almost anything. I read older mainly out-of-copyright stuff, most of which is free. Some of it though is pretty poorly put together, but again that's easily fixed with an editor. I tried the open source SIGIL, but it was unstable on my system, so I spent a few dollars on JUTOH which is absolutely terrific, especially if you're British, since it comes from Scotland, and knows about British spellings. It'll also deal with your Word or other documents - Brilliant all round. Typically I spend about 20 minutes orr so fixing up a book to my taste which may then take me a day to read. I doubt it matters very much what you buy, but the Kindle is very easy on the eye and a heck of a good price. Cheers Mick |

My thoughts exactly... Whilst looking around and comparing devices, my conclusion was that for the money, Kindle was the best - cheaper than most others, and better quality. Just my opinion. Most of the others (that I saw) were either more expensive or cheap and nasty looking. Some free advice: I wouldn't buy one on Ebay (for whatever reason they are about $50 more expensive than direct from Amazon), and, if buying from Amazon, I elected to pay in US dollars instead of Australian, as the Amazon exchange rate was about $10 more expensive than what I paid. Delivery took under a week (US to Australia) - I thought that was pretty good. Last edited by The Redbaron; 06-15-2011 at 09:23 AM. Reason: missed a word |
