If you read Pride & Prejudice, Georgette Heyer or Barbara Cartland. it's not hard at all to tell the difference. One of my favorite alive authors is Loretta Chase. Her Lord of Scoundrels is one of my favorites. For me I can tell right off if it's going to be true to the period or not. Dialogue can give it away because they talked very different back then. For me writing style is important. It takes some serious skills to write a good regency romance due to Austen and Heyer setting the bar so high.

Good to know! As I stated in the Jane Austin thread, I have an omnibus of her works floating around on my TBR list. I think I'll have to make sure I fit that in this summer.
