Bombay Sapphire on the rocks and an old copy of Guns of Navarone on the screen... a nice way to spend Saturday evening.

Astra... It's Saturday night here so it must be Saturday morning at your house... Where are you, son?

So far today: 1 mocha coffee, 1 liter of Rooibos Orange Lemon Lime, 0.5 liters of water and I just made myself a Vanille Latte Macchiato. I've been curled up on the sofa with 'The Book Thief' all morning and plan to stay there for the remainder of the day

I have a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, it's one of their flavours. And it is great, my favourite actually

Absolutely unique, so much better than the commercial ones. I have a little less than 2 liters. 3 plastic bottles that I put in the freezer, plus a 1/2 liter glass bottle.

I put 50 flowers in a liter of cold water, plus 80 g. of citric acid, plus 2 organic lemons cut in quarters and partially squeezed. Left it there for 3 days, then added a little of sodium benzoate and 1 kg of sugar (800 refined and 200 brown). Filtered trough a towel and a colander over a pot and that's it. The recipe recommended not to squeeze. Put in the bottles. It is darkish because of the pollen, I think.

Little Daughter helped me and she adores it.

(I kept the flowers in the freezer)

What is a lemon martini?
A dry martini with a squeeze of lemon peel? Straight up? Just pass the glass near the cabinet where the vermouth is stored? Just stirred in a pitcher full of ice and poured in a frozen cocktail glass? First a tiny sip? then a nice one then that's it and a refill?
That one?
I am game.

(Now remember my mother is 90, with a very damaged heart, so different circumstances than yours.) Anyway, there are lots of ways to treat it -- medicine to keep it slowed down (often beta blockers), defibrillation to "shock" it back into rhythm, ablation of the area causing the rhythm problem, or implanting a pacemaker. They had her wear a monitor at home for a week, and she had to transmit the data by phone every night. All she ended up needing was upping her beta blocker dosage and spreading it out through the day, and it worked perfectly. The other options are often used, too, particularly on someone a little younger and healthier than my mother. Lots of people are successfully treated for A fib, from what they told us, so keep your chin up and try not to worry too much (and try not to let her worry too much!) Keeping both of you in my thoughts...and coffee in my cup!
Thank you all.

Cran Grape in my cup.

Wow — that's concentrated stuff. It must have an amazing fragrance.

I think it's definitely worth a go. Elderflowers are out all over the place at the moment. Anyone else tried making elderflower cordial?

LOL no, actually, we aren't. Or at least I'M not. I'm probably the bad influence of the crowd. My poison of choice (KK, hush!) is diet dr pepper.

This week though, I've had more lemonade than anything else. I picked up a stomach virus somewhere, that promptly dehydrated me (because I don't drink nearly enough water), so I switched to lemonade for a few days. I'm just now sipping my first dr pepper in three days - and amazingly enough, without a lot of success.

I do drink tea, though (mainly iced, southern style, except in the winter here when something hot is a necessity), won't touch coffee, and don't drink any sort of alcohol (weird overreaction from my sense of smell - I smell alcohol, I throw up. And I can smell it, even if it's supposedly "unsmellable". )

I am game.
Here ya go...

Lemon Drop Martini Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces vodka [in my case, only Chopin will do]
1/2 ounce triple sec
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
Superfine sugar for dipping
Twisted peel of lemon

I omitted the superfine sugar around the rim of the glass though.

An ex-GF turned me onto them years ago - I recall it was considered initially as a "chick" drink, but I am secure in my masculinity so I don't care.

Plus I love lemons and vodka, so why not? lol
