Yep, your're right, they did an update today.

Thanks.

Footnotes should work on Kobo books. Not ePubs yet though

Thanks for any input.
I am super excited to be able to tell you that newspapers on the Touch are much improved. Page changes and going one article to the next (or clicking next article button) are pretty much instantaneous!!!! Back to article option does have some delay, but no worse than the wifi. 1.9 nearly did me in on newspapers.

1st observations on the new Kobo Touch:

- Light is now on top (out of sight)
Not sure I like the new slide power switch – not as much chance to accidently get turned on, but harder to use
- Different feel it -- it’s bevelled from the edges on the back (thicker in centre than sides/top/bottom) -- I haven't decided if I like that or not
- New front texture shows fingerprints and doesn’t wipe off very easily (doesn't bother me, but some people might not like it)
- $10 gift certificate when you register is a nice touch (I wonder if that’s a limited time offer or just if you already have Kobo or if it’s a general thing).
- it has options for 5,10,15,30,45,60 min and never options for sleep and power off
- 1400 mb rather than 1100 onboard storage available
- Font size – can only change in steps – doesn’t have selection option like it used to (but more steps available which is probably why)
- Automatically downloads free previews of any book you have “saved” in online store
- page turns are faster
- not sure book loading times are a lot different.
- not sure I like the book display on the home page (but that could well be because it's currently showing a bunch of newspapers and you can't tell what date each one is from).

Overall impressions so far are positive!

They do, ordered mine today from Borders to ship to New Zealand. Can't wait! Shipping was $8.98USD - I assume it will be similar to Australia

For those in the US, Borders is offering free 2-3 day shipping on the Kobo Touch now, using a code them have on their home page. Ebates also gives 6% back for Borders.

I received a Nook Touch today, and it's already packed for a return. It's ugly, uncomfortable to hold, I saw the infamous ghosting others have mentioned, and a pdf book I opened looked like a Scrabble board instead of text. The side buttons are sliver-thin and difficult to press down, and they demanded a credit card to open a free book.

So I ordered a Kobo and can't wait to try it.

For those fortunate enough to test and buy it in stores already in Canada, here's a completely off-topic but amusing video segment I saw on tv last night:

Thank you very much for the update. I went out and bought one at Chapters tonight and YES, the handling of newspapers and magazines is fantastic. Jumping between articles and sections in the New York Times is as quick as reading an e-book. The issue with the kobo wifi had me looking at kindle but I am very happy to have purchased a new kobo. The savings in hard copy subscriptions will pay make this kobo pay for itself in 6 months.

I tought the sync feature would enable it to be at the same page !
Am I missing something ?
If what you're asking is whether you can sync your book's bookmark on your iOS device with the Kobo Touch, the answer is yes

To do so, you need to make sure you have a wifi connection for both.

On your iOS device, whenever pause a book for later, leave the book and go back to the Library. "Pull down" the Library to sync your entire Library to make sure it's up-to-date.

If you want to keep your bookmark up-to-date (on the Cloud) on your Kobo Touch and you don't have a Wi-Fi network saved you can tap on the Sync Cloud from the Home page to initiate the process of connecting and saving a Wi-Fi network. This will keep your entire Library up-to-date ().not just your bookmarks

With a Wi-Fi network saved, your Kobo Touch will attempt to keep your book's bookmar in sync with other Kobo apps as much as possible:
  • Opening the book from the Home page or Library will try to grab the latest bookmark from the cloud, assuming it is newer than the bookmark stored on the device. (It may take a little bit more time if Wi-Fi is currently off) It will prompt you with a dialog letting you know a newer bookmark is available. You can choose to navigate there or not.
  • Leaving the book by pressing Home, Back, or putting the device to Sleep (either manually or automatically) will save your current bookmark to the cloud.
  • If you're resuming a book from Sleep Mode, you do not need to leave the book to get the latest bookmark. In the Reading Menu (tap the centre part of the screen while you're inside a book), open the Context Menu and select Update Bookmark to manually fetch the latest bookmark from the cloud. Again, the same dialog as point one will appear.

With that said, there is currently an issue with cloud bookmarking with some of our books. This is a backend issue that will get resolved in the near future.

Hi, did everything you said, it does not sync the pages or bookmark.

Also when you say: "open the Context Menu and select Update Bookmark", I don't have that option

Again, it could be because it's a sideloaded epub ?????????

Hi Grumpy2906,

We don't currently support cross-device bookmark syncing of sideloaded content.

Question Compatible?

LOVE my new Touch -- but heading to Maine woods and hoping I don't have to lug along a laptop. (I blew up a valued radio once by using a noncompatible charger.) I have a USB wall charger from my Cybook Gen3, and am wondering if I can use it with the Touch? (Just checking the quoted statement.)

On charger:

"Output: 5V DC, 500mA Max"

On bottom edge of Touch in teeny tiny script:

"5V DC [straight line over broken line] 0.8A"

Does this mean it's good to go?

Thanks!

500mA = 0.5A
0.5A /= 0.8A
I found 1000mA charger in a seconds. Would be cheap too.
