I played with the touch last night...

And it's niiiiiiiice.

Very pleasant to hold, fast page turns, beautifully clear screen. Very responsive and easy to use. Was surprised to see it takes a Micro USB charge/sync cable, not Mini, and a Micro SD card as opposed to a regular SD card. The Reading Life app is adorable.

I want. I don't need one, but oh. Do I ever WANT one.

Yes, it's nice. I have the original as well, and I haven't used it since I got the touch. It is a simple reader, but what it does, it does well and comes in a nice, light package. Now, if it only was $99...

Thanks for sharing your impressions on the new Kobo Touch. I'm really tempted to buy one... but trust me, I need another ebook reader like I need a hole in the head. Perhaps I could gift one to my husband... and borrow it occasionally.

Are you referring to the Kobo Touch? It isn't for sale yet. I think you might be in the wrong forum, judging by the Nook readers that you have listed. The OP was referring to the Kobo, if I understand correctly.

This IS the Kobo forum.
Kobo Touch is nice nice nice.

I'm trying to find a way to justify the cost of yet another ereader for myself.

Well... It's not really that expensive. Combined price for the Kobo and Kobo Touch is just around the same as one PRS-650 so really, it's just as if you only bought one reader and you paid in two installments.

But you do have holes in your head. There's your eye sockets, nostrils, mouth, ears without which, it would be difficult to function. Without your nostrils and/or mouth, you wouldn't be able to breath so really, you could say you need it as much as air.

I know!

The temptation... the knowing I really don't need one... the attempt at convincing hubby that I need one (when I know I don't)...

Yes, my mistake - sorry, I checked the "Today's posts" and didn't pay attention to the forum. For what I've read on the net, the Kobo should be a pretty good eReader and should give the nook a run for its money.

I need something at home in the order of a tab PC to connect my six year old to the internet. Would the Nook Simple Touch be adequate for the job?

The Kobo forum is probably not the best place to ask this question.

Your an impulse buyer arent you??

Ok I will give you some wise words.
Im sure your current reader works fine. I dont think you will get anything more out of the new one that your current reader doesnt give you now. You dont buy new printings of books because they have new cover art do you?? Same thing here. Yeah there are a few new toys to play with on a new reader but nothing that will improve your joy of reading. If anything, if you buy this reader, you will geek over it for a couple days at most, get bored of it and regret spending all that cash.

How did I do.

ps. If this little lecture doesnt help you, go outside with your ereader and throw it as hard as you can against a tree or other suitable object. Voila one broken ereader and an excuse to get another.

I agree with Tony. 'sometimes bad things happen to good ereaders' maybe you accidently sit on it or maybe just maybe you have a defective battery? and you NEED a replacement..just saying
