Updated Kindle 3 cover
I have the old style unlighted Amazon Kindle 3 cover that caused problems. I just noticed that there is a new cover that is identified on amazon as an "Updated Design." Has anyone been successful in exchanging an old cover for one of the updated ones?
BTW, I have not been on this forum for some time, so I suspect this has been covered, but I couldn't find anything after a forum search on "updated cover". I'll apologize in advance if I missed this. Thanks http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Leather...in3w_ddp_pop2? |

Heya...dunno about this specific K3 cover or the previous version, but I did look at it briefly when purchasing my new K3. I discounted it immediately.
I did not like the looks of the attachment points and quite frankly I feel that the asking price is silly. There are plenty of other similarly styled covers for far less. I ended up buying a Bundle Monster synthetic leather cover that I just love. Same concept, less, than half the price and believe me, surprisingly top notch quality at any price. Seams are perfect, the magnetic clasp is secure and it it also quite thin, svelte, classic looking and allows for the same one handed reading. Am new here to the boards so cannot post URLs yet, but search Amazon for Bundle Monster Kindle 3 cover. check it out...Just my opinion and YMMV -les |

I ended up with an Oberon cover which is just great, wasn't sure I'd like the 'straps' as opposed to the clips/'hinge', but find I don't mind them at all. |

It looks like all they did was stop coating the tabs... I wonder if the coating was causing some sort of capacitive buildup and discharge due to having a very thin insulator between conductors...

I called Kindle support, and they are giving me a credit on my credit card for the old case. I actually like the case a lot, so I'll just purchase the new one. They told me to discard the old case. Thanks.

This thing was missing for quite a while and has a poor reputation over at the lighted version because they have determined that stress from the Kindle's movement causes the fasteners to crack. The solution is Velcro to the back of the Kindle to stop movement.
Not much case for $35. I got a remarkable leather case at eBay, many colors also, which uses the slide in frame method. Looks like the price has gone up $3 but they are still less that $15 delivered and fits like a glove. Last edited by chas0039; 06-09-2011 at 09:37 AM. |

Clasps scare me... I've seen pictures of screens that looked like they were broken due to the case being closed with the metal snap/clasp between the cover and the screen. For my Kindle, I'll stick w/ the elastic band.

I also got my case over at ebay. It was under $10.00 and I have had no trouble with it to this point. No light but if I want to read in the evening I'm near a regular lamp anyway.

It is really hard to see how that could happen unless something else was crushing the whole case. But the Kindle screen is rather fragile, so I expect better to be safe.

I've had no problems with the clasps on my lighted cover, and can't really picture how normal use would cause enough movement to break them. Do you have a link to this information?
I advoided the cases with elastic because I worried that the elastic would stretch over time or break. |

Are you talking about the official Kindle cases? The metal clasps plug into the side of the Kindle holding it in place. If the the clasps were in a position to be between the case and the Kindle then the Kindle would simply fall out anyway as it would not be connected.
There is also no magnetic closure on the case, the closure is elastic. |

Ah I was talking about the official lighted cover, which is what I thought chas0039 was talking about.
