Best books of 2011

So, now that we are about half way through the year:

Which books that you have read and were published this year are the best?

Which do you think might be up for an award?

Wish I could contribute to this thread but I'm still trying to get caught up on 2010 books and before that (ie. Tolstoy). What is your fave of 2011?

I've not read many books released this year. Those I have are:

Before I Go To Sleep by S J Watson - 4 stars

Mystery by Jonathan Kellerman - 3.5 stars

Live Wire by Harlan Coben - 3.75 stars

Before I go to Sleep was the best, and an antriguing read (listen, actually, as it was an Audible download):

I haven't read many that were actually released this year, either. Of those, I'd recommend "Bossy Pants" by Tina Fey (a really fun read - I lol'd several times throughout), and "Caleb's Crossing" by Geraldine Brooks (a fictionalized account of the first Native American man to attend Harvard - intense and haunting).

I've read a fair number of books this year. For me the stand outs have been:

Connie Willis' Blackout/All Clear

Greg Bear's Hull Zero-Three

Brent Weeks' The Black Prism

The Black Prism was a surprise. I had no reason to think it would be anything but run-of-the-mill fantasy. Boy was I wrong. It's too easy to spoil the surprises by talking about the plot but I'm willing to bet that most people reading this would not be disappointed.

I'm anxious to get reading Caleb's Crossing. I loved 'People of the Book', so I look forward to her latest book.

I can't think of many books published this year that I've read yet (Embassytown and WWW:Wonder are all I can come up with off the top of my head) but if you like the SF and F genres, I've ran across what I concider to be a great site for finding new things to read:

Turing Evolved by David Kitson and
Sector 64: Coup de Main by Dean Cole

While Turing Evolved was first published in 2010 it was Dec 24th when it came out so it's well within its 1st year of publication. Sector 64 of course did come out in early 2011 (Feb. 17th). Both are available via SmashWords.

The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz by Denis Avey

I'd give it five stars, its an amazing tale of the author's wartime experiences (and yes he did what the title says).
