I can't help but think that most of the people posting on this forum over the past couple of days are somewhere around stage 3. It's just a gadget folks. Use it while it remains useful and when it isn't move on. Entourage has shown zero interest in developing community support, whether from developers or users, and that seems unlikely to change now. |

I don't think any forum posters were ever in denial about the company being in trouble. It seems we were more like the nosy neighbors who know something is wrong but can't seem to convince anyone to admit it. And like good neighbors, we are now trying to figure out whether we can be helpful. There is, of course, self-interest involved: We think the eDGe offers something unlike anything else in the market place. It fills a need that no other manufacturer is trying to meet, so we need enTourage to survive. Lord knows, I can't work on an ipad--and I certainly can't read for long periods of time on one. I wish you were right, that in another year or so another company would come out with something that builds on the eDGe. But I don't see anyone else even looking at going down that road. They're all chasing the ipad fantasy that only meets the needs of entertainment junkies amd ignores the needs of professionals who need a device for reading and annotating PDFS/epubs/etextbooks and for seamless integration of those annotations/ebooks with web functionality. |

I purchased a 7-inch Android MID tablet from Hong Kong on eBay - it was brand new for $150. It had GPS, accelerometer, Bluetooth, 801b/g Wifi, HDMI-out, sensitive touch pad, and works well with Android Market. It makes me think that those components (if the Edge is being constructed in China) couldn't be THAT much more expensive. The only bad thing about that tablet was the battery life - and it is horrible.
If those things could be included in an eDGe II (together with a better camera and 4G), there would be no question who's king of the hill. eDGe II, undisputed heavyweight king of tablets. (After re-reading the above, I suppose I'm not asking for much: better camera, 4G, GPS, accelerometer, . . . Granted, a classroom tablet wouldn't need those things, but I think people today might be spoiled [like myself] expecting to have it ALL.) |

GOL . . . And I only want a cell phone that makes phone calls . . .
I think I like doing all the other stuff on my EE because I don't have to purchase extra internet connect charges or data charges, etc., and I like the larger screen. I suppose a smartphone is a little more portable, but I don't like the small screen. I've been thinking about having my EE surgically implanted so it would go wherever I go and I could still carry my books and coffee. That way I could get each and every Entourage Forum message instantly without ever missing a thing. |

Hello, I'm new. I've been waiting to buy a PE until there was an official Android update, and then saw the forum posts about the trouble and have continued waiting to see what happened because I didn't want to buy one and have the company go away. Currently bidding on an EE on eBay and intend to buy a PE from Amazon next paycheck. I have an idea of something that might help - it's something I wish existed, especially since the Entourage webpage was pared down: YouTube videos of real users, not company-paid people, demonstrating what they use their EE or PE for and how. I just want one so I have ONE device to take on trips, for reading, so I can read during daylight with eInk and have backlight instead of a lamp at night with the same document, just by moving it from one side of the device to the other. When I watch users talk about note taking on the eInk side, I'm confused how that works but am intrigued with the possibilities of proof-editing pdfs. Highlighting? How does one do that in eInk when it's greyscale? What are the professional uses for the device, and what are the possibilities? The academic? Etc. The forums have answered some questions but video demonstrations/tutorials would be better. Then, once they're on YouTube, maybe get an article submitted to BoingBoing or Engadget? It's a way to get the word out.
I do wish Entourage would take more interest in releasing the SDK/code for app development if the devices can't have access to Android Marketplace. I'm holding out hope that they're searching for venture capital and keeping the code under wraps to have exclusive product for investors. ta! -T |

I have only used these forums for info because I am not using it for school. Wife, mother and work full time. Just wanted to tell you how I use my PE which I did upgrade to Ermine.
I sew and I have made this awesome rig for her. It has a zip pocket for my phone, a pouch for receipts and coupons, pockets for credit cards and driver license and a loop for an ink pen. Load it up and I am armed for the day. Contacts not only has my friends and family complete information including addresses for sending cards and packages, but I also have my car service, doctors, schools, favourite stores with addresses, phone numbers and hours with notes for things I need to do next time I visit. The Calendar I use for all the usual stuff, but I want to tell you how awesome it is to just click on a day and jot "pick up dry cleaning" on the note side without having to pick a time slot and choose reminders and recurrences and whatever else before I can save it. I keep a file open in MaplePaint called quicknotes. I just flip it open, unlock and jot down whatever while still walking unlike my iPad toting friends who have to invoke an awkward size keypad and assume the position. We bought a fixer-upper house and I keep a journal for each room with notes, measurements, sketches, etc. When I am out and about if I see an item or decorating idea I snap a quick pic and tag it to that room. I also have a perpetual grocery list in journal with pages for produce, dairy, meats, etc. I just add and remove items as needed. I downloaded the Kindle app so now I have a choice of reading on the eInk or if light is low, use the LCD. I am addicted to the puzzle games, too. Anyone who has ever used a Day Runner type organizer would absolutely fall in love with the PE. I kind of think they shouldn't have named it Pocket Edge - it wouldn't fit in any pocket I have. It's my Personal Entourage. ![]() BTW - my daughter has an EE for school and absolutely loves it. |

One of the nice things about these machines, as opposed to things like Day Runners, is that they can be backed up, so that when you lose it, it's a minor inconvenience, rather than a large chunk of your life disappearing. But you do have to remember to back the thing up. Oh, if you don't have any pockets big enough for the PE, since you sew, you could make some. One would be enough. You could put it on the wall, and then explain, "This is my pocket edge, and there is its pocket." But maybe you're not as literal as we reptiles tend to be. |
