But if there will be no future support or OS/firmware upgrades, it seems . . . unwise. And the univ. wouldn't authorize the funds under the circumstances.

What a gigantic bummer. Like other folks have said, this device might have been made expressly for me, especially since I have a whole arthritis/pinched nerve/carpal tunnel combo thingie that means I need to be doing more things onscreen than on paper. I don't want some wafer-thin, featherlight, totally un-ergonomic, painful to use piece of trash like a Kindle or iPad, and I don't need 5 billion pointless apps. But integrating an e-reader/writer with a tablet in a nice large solid durable package? This is total brilliance. I dunno -- I'm halfway tempted to plunk down my own funds and grab one while I still can, support and warranty or not. Everything I need it to do, it already does well enough.

Or I guess the alternative is to limp along with only the laptop and old reliable Time:Master planner book and hope desperately that someone, anyone, somewhere realizes the marvelous practicality and limitless potential of this design.
My feelings exactly.

I've been busy for quite sometime and could only visit the forum a few times. BUt I was saddened to read some of the posts ominously sounding the death knell of the company.

But my hope was revived when I received that email. I was quite sure it was only the eternally hopeful me. I'm glad someone else had the same feeling. Well, since my last dealing with the company (had to return a defective unit but Tech service was really great), and the fact that I'm a non-US customer, I became quite fatalistic about the "Entourage future" thing and am just treating my device with more care and circumspection.

I'm also an academic, and I heartily endorse the Edge despite all of its limitations. Every day I am more and more pleased with my purchase(s), as I've now got both a PocketEdge and a full-sized Edge. For academic purposes I really suggest getting the full-sized Edge. If your Uni won't cover it because the company is potentially going under, definitely consider picking up a used one. I got my full-sized Edge, used, from an Amazon seller for $380. There are quite a few up for auction on ebay that are well under the $500+ retail price. It's worth it! And does all sorts of things that the ipad just can't do.

I'll be part of that seller list pretty soon....

Are you dissatisfied with the upgrade?

I'd happily spend my own money on a new Edge today if I were sure the Entourage update servers would still be running by the time I opened the box and turned the thing on a few days from now. I don't know when this last crop was manufactured, but I doubt they shipped with Dingo 1.1.11 on board, and quite a few users here seem to think this whole place could go dark at any second. I can live without future updates, but it'd be awfully nice to have the past ones! Seems that a used Edge may indeed be a safer bet.

Isn't there an update.zip for Dingo 1.11 floating around that would still work even if the enTourage servers were smashed to bits by pillaging mobs?

Answering my own question, here are the instructions for offline updating. I would obviously save the page and download the update.zip before purchasing, if you choose to do so.

Save and download *now*, because it may not be there later...

Not quite. These are "update" files, which will take you from an older version to the latest Dingo version. These preserve your data, settings and apps. You cannot use these to go from Ermine back to Dingo.

The other set of files are "Golden" update files. These do a complete wipe & reformat of the eDGe and install the latest Dingo version, regardless of what older or newer version you had previously. They also wipe out all your data, settings and apps.

OK, that's what I thought, except that Adiposius linked to the same update files as the Golden Update thread links to. I've downloaded the update files from this page, which I thought where the Golden Updates, but now I think they're not?

Here's the correct link to the Dingo golden update files: https://www.entourageedge.com/suppor...barticleid=263.

I get 404 errors on both links...

I just tried both pages with no problems. Fire up a different browser and try again?

EDIT: Don't select & copy the URL I posted, as the "..." in it will make the url invalid. Instead, click on the URL, or at least right-click on it and "Copy Shorcut"/"Open in New Tab/Window".

For some reason Firefox is inserting an extra character at the end of the URL--I just manually deleted it in the address bar and it's downloading just fine. Thanks for your help!

The link I gave was for updating from a previous version of Dingo. It probably won't work if you already have Ermine.
