re: the HTC flyer

Looks pretty nifty, though it doesn't say which version of Android (at least in the specs) it has -- just that it's Android with HTC Sense. I have to give it props, though, for the stylus. I hate how the term "tablet" has been appropriated by any slate, touch screen device. To me a "tablet" will always mean a device with proper stylus input for handwriting.

Yes, you can get off my lawn now.

This article is very interesting, and sounds to me like the Kno is dead. Very few were shipped. The company seems to be giving up on hardware and will make iPad / Android software. A very competitive market indeed.

The Kno looked promising, though a little bulky looking. Anyways, what is interesting about the article is how it could pertain to the Edge, as well. The articles cites the unexpected competition in the tablet market which could very well be affecting Entourage. The Edge may be different enough, but there is a lot more out there to distract potential customers.

The Kno was bulky, expensive, and in my opinion totally focused on the education market. And I still think the lack of content (in this case high quality interactive electronic textbooks) makes it really tough to succeed. Everything about the Kno was organized by semesters, etc according to the description on the website. Sharp focus on such a limited market makes it tough to survive. I agree with your comments about possible eDGe analogies. Makes it tough for anyone not exactly in that intended market to have a rough time seeing how they may use it in their lives.

The things I dont like about my edge are...

1. Weight
2. Battery Life
3. No Multi-touch......Multitouch really would have made all forgiveable, but as it stands its less functional than my phone without pinch and zoom.

Also, if the upgrade to Froyo was on schedule I might be more pleased with my software selection, but as it stands I am not too impressed. I would be happier with a Froyo upgrade.

My stylus has stopped working and is glitching on the ereader side. I hope Entourage covers this and does a repair for me. I would at least give them good marks for customer service then.

If you are waiting for a tablet, hold out for a Meego Tablet. Its the first ever GNU-Linux, a true desktop experience in a tablet multitouch form factor.

If they get it in an e-paper non-glare, Im sold.

Ipad isnt great. You cant read LCD on the go. Only indoors. LCD also drains the battery, so dont expect to go studying out on the town with it. Its good for the life of a laptop or netbook then dead.....maybe good for entertaining the kids on a long ride, but not a serious study tool.

Edge is great for students, but multi-touch, and Froyo would go a long way. Lowering the weight WITHOUT reducing the screen size would also help, but I would master the battery life and interface first.

The Pocketbook 903 for PDFs and any number of Android tablets can TOGETHER add up to the Edge, only with terrific battery life, more gray scale, multi-touch, and an updated operating system.....Meego? Meego is awesome, but its $1200 on Amazon. The tablet can dual boot Windows 7, though Meego is superior to WIndows or Android, or will be when its polished.

Edge dropped the ball. Do they even care about their promise to upgrade the firmware.

Sure, 2 devices separate wont "interact", but the interface is too primitive to enjoy that anyway. Its a great concept, but its an early stab at it.

I bet Entourage will learn from this and make some good devices in the future, IF they survive 2011-2012 as a company.

Anyone want to sell me their Irex?
I probably wont offer you a premium. I know they are a dead end with batter life, and I know they glitch. Its big enough for PDF though and it can hold me over until the Onxy Boox M90.

Maybe I will keep my Edge if they upgrade to Froyo sooner than later, or if I can install Meego on it without losing the ereader side. Maybe i will give it to my daughter.

Sucks that hyperlinks wont work. I would like to click on a chaper and go there. Text reflow for PDF is also poor compared to what I was expecting.....Many PDFs are readable, but I was hoping for more.

Release a BETA for Froyo. Im Linux savvy. Id be willing to be a beta tester for you and maybe even pep talk your product.

Repair my device before the 1 year mark is up?
