Love the PE, will I love the EE?
First, great forum, thanks to all the contributors. I ran across it looking for a direct comparison of the EE & PE.
I got my wife a PE as a Christmas present and in setting it up and playing with it I have fallen in love with it. I also got one for my daughter but think she will be better off with the larger EE. I got both units from HSN at the launch for $400. I got my wife one to use for her work since a laptop is too bulky and basically can't be used one handed. She just needs access to her email that was downloaded prior and also to view some pics and pdfs for planogramming and marketing purposes. And since she has to keep track of time and travel the journal feature will be great. My daughter is in high school and also does a lot of pleasure reading. I don't think she will mind the added size of the unit. Should I invest in the extended warranty? My Question: I notice the layout of the lcd side is different but other than that are they the same in features and operation? I can return one or both of the PEs to HSN in exchange for the EE which is currently priced at $499.99. Last edited by jimates; 12-22-2010 at 06:17 AM. |

For work and school, the EE is unquestionably the best choice. The much larger eInk screen makes note-taking, reading of technical documents and annotation practical (all of these are possible on the PE, but much more awkward). Once you've used the PE for a while, the EE is like a luxury Cadillac - big and spacious
![]() The larger size tends not to be inconvenient in these environments since the size is similar (and often smaller!) than what you'd normally be carrying (i.e., binders and textbooks). The LCD layout you're mentioning is likely just the selection of icons added to the home screen. The software on both devices looks and works the same, differing only in screen real estate. |

Actually, Boris, there is a chance that jimates needs to update the software on the EE. That might explain layout differences too. He should check to see if there is an update available by touching "update" in the app tray.

Ah, okay.
jimates, I just noticed this, too. The PE is more convenient for carrying around outside of work and school. It's a wonderful "lifestyle" device. I have both, using the EE for work and at my desk, and my PE everywhere else. |
