So to all... I buyed new developing computer, setted all stuff needed and was able to build kernel..,
So now will wait for GPL source update and will work on Froyo.
Consider me very, VERY excited! Will these builds include your own custom bug fixes and e-ink additions?

The problem is that it's very risky. Device can be bricked (or in plain language: complitly ****ed up). If only I had second EE or special hardware... :-(
I will think how to do it more safely.

I think we could find 20 people willing to contribute $30 or so to that effort.

robot, what kind of bootloader is the eDGe using? Anything near stock? I am sure we can reduce the probability of brickage to nil.

Hi robot.

Would the Golden Update on SD card +rotate +menu button on startup get you out of this or can you envisage a situation where the boot process got borked before it could even run the hard system factory reset process?

Jcase, they use uboot. Waiting for source code.

drsteve, exactly, it's possible that boot process will fail without an option to restore (unless you dissassemble device and connect to it with special hardware)

Chubulor, it would be nice, but... from the time I agree to take donations, only 3 people connected me asking what exactly they do for me (and it was nice to see that theres some people with REAL interest in supporting development), and zero money were donated so far.

In my case, it's not $549, but around $700... shipping + tax

robot no fastboot mode? and we already looked into a recovery mode?

Has anyone opened up an eDGe, do we know what we are dealing with if we need to jtag it?

That's kind of a shame. It is a pain to have already paid full price for a device and then have to pay an independent developer to fix the deficiencies because the producer is dragging their feet on releasing the SDK and source code, but I'd like to think if each person had to donate just a little (rather than bearing the full burden of justly compensating you for all the work you've done) it would work out.

'Cos allmost none of high tech devices officially distributed in russia (or at least has russian language support), in russia it's common practic, when community (or several users) hire programmer, or give him the device as a gift to make necessary changes. Also sometimes developing sponsored by small distributors, who interested in increasing sales of adopted devices.

But in other countries seems it's not so popular.

Also as I see average age of EE users is about 30-40 years old, teachers and so on... They happy with current functional and don't looking for improovement.

Robot,

As I'm willing to donate (50 euro's), al you have to do is give me instructions how it can be done. No strings attached.

Or maybe, if you need an other eDGE I can send the money to Entourage (maybe they are willing to sell one to "the community" for a reduced price) as a partial payment.
I guess they know how to find you if they want it send to you. ;-)

Please let me know.

Greetings,

Jos.

The enTourage store sells gift cards of any amount from $20-$1000. This would be a very simple and hassle free way of donating to robot, and only requires robot's email address. Robot would have no problem using the gift cards to purchase a second eDGe, avoiding the whole international money transfer problem.
