5" eDGe
I was talking with my colleague about ereaders today and she said she loves the eDGe, its functionality and everything at all but she mostly reads while commuting between her home and the office. While joking we discussed that the perfect solution for her would be a 5" eDGe device.
I tought I'll shoot the idea into the forum too to hear a few of your oppinion's too. |

I'm kinda torn. If there were a 5" or 6" device, I could see myself buying it, but at the same time, one of the major uses for the eDGe that I'm interested in is academic papers, which I'm sure benefit from the 10" e-ink screen.

Tell her if she wants an eReader, get a Kindle... You can never satisfy people...

For me a 5" form factor doesn't have much appeal. I would actually like a dualscreen where the eInk side is US letter sized and the LCD was larger and higher resolution. Model 2.0 is enough to keep me happy.

I feel like a 5" is a little too in-between in size. The Dell Streak (*snicker* sorry can't help it) has that size, and that's the major criticism for it: It's too big for a pocket, too small to have the real "tablet computer" feel.

I don't think I would have bought a 5" EE. Its just too small for the material I want read on the e-ink side.
Boris is right. It would appeal to to the general public more than the academic types. |

I have own 5" eReader JINKE, it is fit for traveling with 3 weeks battery per charge. 6" SONY PRS505, 6" JINKE, 6" ONYX (Stylus+wireless). 8" IREX iLiad2 (Stylus+wireless), 10" DR1000S (Stylus) and several 6" LCD screen (stylus)
Any of them has it own benefits, even myself, not only use for research but also for different purpose. Just swap SDCARD. |

oh, I would be so in for a 5" eDGe. To me I think it would be much easier to carry around and deal with.

I think, if the price point were right, I would consider a small edge. It would be great for personal notes, light reading etc. Never replace the full version though.

I don't think I would buy a reader with such a small screen, unless it's very cheap. I would be using it just for taking notes, just can't stand reading on small screens. I'm starting to think that I need even a bigger screen than the Edge has

I guess in this regard if it were effortless to keep the files on the small edge in sync with the big edge, then I might have a use for a smaller version of an edge.
(Of course the landscape support, and zooming, panning, scrolling behaviors for the eInk display would need to be reworked to make a 5" screen practical. Right now it is merely tolerable on a large screen. ) Last edited by kenjennings; 07-22-2010 at 11:38 AM. |
