There is an app, Note Everything, which allows text, voice and paint(hand written) notes. The voice note is in 3gp format (Quick Time plays it) after you save the recording by selecting use this file a box opens with the option to add text, insert date and time among others. Then you can select send and email opens with the file attached. You can attach the assignment file now and send both at once. Since this app runs on the LCD side you can mark up the assignment at the same time. Hope this is useful.

Thanks for the responses. Part of my thoughts were in light of some research that suggests that some written material may be retained better if supplemented with oral explanations. Certainly it's an idea that requires more fermentation, but I appreciate the brainstorming. The Note Everything app sounds very intriguing, cheyennedonna; thanks for the suggestion!

I'm not an educator... but this brings up to me some people I've known in the past who have a 'visual dislexia' disorder... meaning they are not very good with written comments, although they can handle them to a certain degree, so the audio comment would be a terrific add-on in these circumstances... I think... as a supporting component...?

That would be a great idea! I am going to to do some technology training seminars for Sprint.

I'm in. I didn't have my eDGe for the entire semester but my students really liked have digital copies of their work with the handwritten comments. They can't ignore or delete the comments like they can in word or preview and it's so much faster for me to hand write versus typing in comments. (I use the blue ink setting so it stands out a bit.)

I'm working over the summer to attach all the files and links I use in class to the text using the eDGe, so it will all be in one place. Currently, I just have a folder of poorly labeled files and notes I have to dig through to find the right one for each lesson. I'm excited about the time this will save me during the semester. I teach classes that use a lot of graphs and drawing them on the computer is time consuming so I have many handwritten notes that I'm planning to convert using the eDGe drawing tools.

I haven't used the video camera in class yet but I have used the voice recorder. I used it to record some of my lectures and student presentations. I plan on reviewing my lectures to make improvements. I also plan to use the audio/video recording of student presentations to send to them along with comments/suggestions for improvement. I think if they see and hear themselves, they will improve their presentation skills more quickly compared to just receiving comments.

lisa031825,

Nice to see you're getting such good practical use out of the eDGe! Are you just returning marked-up PDFs of the students' assignments with your comments to them? Thanks.

I am. Before I had the eDGe I would print out their papers and mark them and hand them back the hard copies. I had tried using comments in Preview and Word but it takes more time and the students don't seem to respond the same as to physical markups. The upside of using comments was I had a record of what I had told them they needed to fix or work on, which I didn't have with the hard copies. The marked up pdfs on the eDGe get the same response from students as the marked up hard copies and I have a record of my comments at the same time. I also have all the files tagged by course number so it's a lot more organized than stacks of paper on my desk.

Lisa,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still getting up to speed on what document types (with annotations created on the eDGe) can be shared to devices other than the eDGe. I'm right with you as far as writing being much quicker/more efficient for me in making comments. My handwriting is so poor, though, that I usually print. As a result, I really would like to find a good stylus that is a little larger around, as the one provided with the eDGe is so tiny it's hard for my stubby fingers to manipulate well. Take care.

Hey Bruce,

In terms of a better stylus, I'd suggest:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

Anything that is "Wacom Penabled" will work on the eDGe. Note: Wacom makes one with an eraser on the other end (for $5-8 more), but at present the eraser does not work on the eDGe (although at some point in the future it would be nice if they added that functionality).

Walt,

Not Bruce, but thanks for the tip! Ratings on Amazon look good, and there's only two listed as in stock, so I think won't indulge in my usual painstaking search (AKA, uber procrastination ). Take care.

Yes, I have one that came with my Adesso Cyberpad that is just the right thickness for me, but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work with the eDGe. I've ordered the one Walt recommended, so I should be able to test it in a couple of days. Appreciate the seconding opinion.

I was just making a joke with reference to your handle (i.e., Batman=Bruce Wayne).

I searched pretty extensively for the Wacom pen and couldn't find a price that beat Amazon's, particularly when you consider that they offer free shipping.

Aha! I try not to use that ID on here so as not to endanger Alfred and Aunt Harriet .
