Talking University of Phoenix and Entourage eDGe

The Entourage eDGe does NOT work with University of Phoenix courses properly. I purchased the eDGe to read pdf documents (on the ereader side) and log onto the UoP site (with the browser).

PDF documents will not open, neither on the ereader side or in PDF-to-Go on the browser side. This is because UoP pdf documents are protected and secure. I didn't try one of those pdf unlock programs but I don't think they will even work; UoP has their pdf protected documents locked down. Yes, I did copy the pdf text and paste into Word but I loose too many important diagrams and images.

I can indeed login into the UoP site to attend to my courses. The problem is scrolling. The browser (the include browser nor Dolphin) can scroll through the many postings. It works, sort of, but it's a pain.

Pros? I love the music app and have tons of songs on my 8 GB thumb drive. My daughter's photo is the background wallpaper. She likes watching SpongeBob mp4 in the car.*She can also practice her school work. I give her the weekly spelling test and practice her arithmetic skills with journaling. I can check work and personal email accounts with wifi. Absolutely the best program to download? RadioTime. You get tons of radio stations on the eDGe. Here's a good tip. In order to read a pdf doc in bed in the dark, hit that little camera icon twice. Best features? The hinge and the 4 rubber pads on the browser side. Keeps it from slipping. Best undocumented tip? VPN access. Best looking app? Calculator. It's gorgeous. App I'll never use? Contacts. Most useful for? Hotel web browsing, taking notes by journaling at conferences, and audio recording. BEST USE? Keeping a 7 year old busy at home or in the car by watching movies and "writing" on pdf math and language arts worksheets.

Cons? I got rid of Dolphin. Can't find a way to delete Frozen Bubble. For the longest time couldn't figure out how to type in Word-To-Go or NotePad. Wish I could remove the online ebook store icon. *You can't copy from your laptop directly to the sd card on the eDGe. Everything has to copy first to the eDGe. Looking for a camera and video app. Wish the date would be included in the title with the time.

The eDGe is great! The above cons are insignificant. Awesome machine, folks!

Oh the joys of DRM. According to their website UofP uses protectedpdf. A Google search will turn up how to bypass it if you are so inclined.

Did you order/download them directly to the edge, or to another computer? If you purchased/downloaded them to another PC the DRM may have the files "attached" to the PC.

University of Phoenix is great! Ebooks come with the courses. It doesn't matter whether I'm at work or home, I can read the pdf docs on either computer. Ebooks are not computer specific except for the eDGe. I'm not going to start jailbreaking protected pdf documents just so I read them on the eDGe.

Understand, I'm not looking for a solution. Already have. Tried printing the pdf to a pdf printer, saving as various other formats, copying, and pasting. I even have Adobe Acrobat Professional.

I just wanted it to work but, alas, nope.

Here's another tip I'm coat-tailing from someone else's post. The eDGe charges my iPhone. Suweet!
