Does anyone know if rotation of e-ink is a feature definitely to be added in future OS updates? Or is it just us users pleading for it to be added?
Edit: Err...I know this is a feature request thread(!) Last edited by jaggy; 10-09-2010 at 06:43 PM. |

Currently this stands out as the most oft requested feature, so I'm sure enTourage is well aware of the demand. When this first came up back in the Spring, I was told the complication is annotations in rotated mode. I've never heard what the progress is, if it's actively in the works, or if higher priority features have pushed it down the list...

I have asked about about this. They are working on it and have told me they will make it available as soon as they have worked out the kinks. I'm sure it's a high priority and is coming.

I hope they do get this out soon.
My background is very far afield from computer science, but it seems to me that annotation shouldn't be a huge issue. Based on what you all have said, it sounds like highlighting may be the problem... I mean, it doesn't even work super smoothly in portrait mode. Maybe they could release landscape functionality allowing for hand-written annotation, and upgrade with highlighting somewhere in the future. That would solve many of my problems... at least with the eDGe ![]() |

I've been thinking a lot about the possibilities for the eReader side. According to tech support, enTourage is working on improving speed, responsiveness, and the user interface for the next update.
I was wondering, though, for the update after that, would you rather have the ability to read in landscape or to have the annotations anchored and scalable when zoomed? Personally, I'd vote for number 2. I would have less of a need for the landscape reading if I could annotate while zoomed and have it work alright. Thoughts? |

That's a tough one. I'm on the fence and would gladly take either first.

Why can't we have both landscape and properly placed and scaled annotations? I don't see why they would have to be mutually exclusive.

Great suggestion. I think both would be great features, and maybe one day the EE's Reader will be able to do both. But first I think we need the Landscape.

According to tech support, both are coming... I didn't mean to imply that they were mutually exclusive. However, my guess is that the enTourage eReader team may have to focus on one before the other.

But your comment about annotations being properly anchored makes me realize that positioning annotations is not as trivial as it seems, particularly when the annotations go along with text that is being reformatted to fit the screen. That actually helps to explain why landscape mode is difficult, since it adds one more layer to that problem. It would not surprise me at all if these problems are connected in such a way that fixing one fixes the other. I guess we'll find out-- I'm looking forward to getting even more use out of the Edge with landscape mode. |

I, too, bought the EE to read (and annotate) academic papers. So, I see the inherent value of landscape reading. Most of my PDFs, though, are two column, so the ability to zoom and annotate would work well in my field (biology).

A solution for the Landscape Mode!
Guys,,, I have a turn around solution for the landscape mode in the Entourage Edge. I tried it, and it works just fine. IT IS NOT PERFECT, BUT WORKS! First, I use a PDF editor to "rotate pages in the PDF document". You can use something like this software: http://pdfrider.codeplex.com/ then, you can load the document on your entourage and read it on the device. This then will load on the device in landscape mode however, using fit to width. then, use Zoom Select to zoom in half the page. Then this loads up in the edge. You then have to use your dial zoom buttons to move around the page (wished for stylus based zooming here). but anyway, you CAN still highlight and add notes. I think this pretty much solves the issue. can't someone make a simple android app that rotates the PDF page. if the edge was to be able to move on the zoom area it then would be perfect. Hope this helps, OZ |
