Battery life problems??

Hi - I spent today with me Edge on (and LCD off), reading an occasional page between doing other things. The battery completely drained in under 7 hours (fewer than 90 page turns and no use of the netbook side other than to select the book at the start of the day). Is anyone else finding their battery is draining radically faster than promised? Is this a software issue that is going to be addressed by an update? If this all I can expect in terms of battery life, I'm afraid I'll have to return my Edge (which is unfortunate, because my experience is generally positive with it).

yes lots of people are experiencing the exact same problems. Entourage has said that they are working on the issue, but there is no timeframe for release.

I'm experiencing problems with the lcd staying off. I'll turn it off, via the lock but soon it'll be on again, though still locked. Any ideas?

I haven't had this happen since I did the software update. And, my battery appears to drain just fine. It's charging I have problems with. :S

Battery life seems to be great! It's not that, it's just disconcerting to have the lcd off and locked and then it's on! But, it may be that I slightly open the eDGe and the screen comes back on, I don't know. It can be hard to keep it completely shut without a latch. I took it to a few stores to look for a case, and the lcd seemed to keep coming on, and stayed on during the car ride. I've done the update, too.

Sarah, I generally don't have a problem with charging, but last night I had it plugged in and it showed that it was discharging. I could not get it to recognize the adapter until I rebooted. I think you have the short adapter, a different issue. Just letting you know that you might have occasional hiccups with the longer adapter, too ;-).

I got my edge on Tuesday and almost shipped it back on Friday. The battery on my unit has a serious problem. No matter how much I charge it, it won't charge pass 48%. I leave it plugged in for over 10 hours and still 48%. I just hope that they do the right thing and exchange the battery. I'm on my Core Duo laptop and it last longer on battery then my edge, of course starting at 48% doesn't help.

Make sure WiFi is off as well as the LCD. I know on mine the battery drains at a great rate with the LCD off and WiFi still on. I hope they can fix these issues because otherwise the promised specs, the ones which people based their purchases on simply aren't true.

Well it should get at least a 1000 page flips, regardless of hours on, to make it a worthwhile stand alone ebook reader, which I don't think is possible given the hardware.

Leaving the Wifi on would do it, and I would hope this would get addressed in the first round of updates.

So has anyone had the problem with their battery not reaching a 100% during charging.

Yes, mine tops out at 92%. We suspect I might not have a perfect battery though for other reasons. (My green light is sometimes a rapidly flickering green light, I have difficulty getting the unit to start charging). So, I can't say whether this by itself is an issue.

I have the same battery problem. If I do not power off it will finish the battery in a few hours, it does not matter if it is closed, open, wireless off, all things off from the power widget. I put my unit closed in the bag during my flight but not powered off and after ten hours when I took it out of my bag to read something between the flights, the battery was completely drained. I can say that I was very disappointed. I hope future updates will fix this. For now I power it off whenever I do not use it.

I don't seem to be having battery issues. I used the edge several hours last night cruising the internet and installing android apps and the battery level didn't even appear to fall.

Ive noticed problem charging with the Wifi on and lcd at full brightness. I dimmed the LCD and it would charge while I was using it.

I think I was clear enough about the issue, the device consumes power even when closed. The standby does not work. It works fine otherwise and I am happy with it.

How to close the unused apps? The machine keep very warm when I am reading or just left it there. Is there an official way of "turning off the LCD"? Thank you!
