At the moment it's five for me. It used to be six but I finally made myself finish one. I also recently checked out 2 mysteries from the university library but haven't started those yet. I am recently feeling restless. It seems that most books I am reading right now start beautifully but stall in the middle, or there is too much marathon sex going on. xP Last edited by wyndslash; 06-06-2011 at 09:32 PM. |

			10. I have made a collection on each of my readers titled "back burner". I've had trouble sticking with any book lately. I finished Dune because I had to read it again for my book club. Glad I did because I got a whole new perspective reading it this time.. I first read it in the early 1970s.

I created a shelf on Goodreads that I call Abandoned. But I don't pay attention to how many are on there because if I abandon them I know I'm never going back.

Books that I have started, but not abandoned, as of right now: 1) A Miss Marple book in French, that I pick up in starts when I either need a very small paperback, or feel guilty about not getting further on it, or need something when I'm "between books" (before going to the library soon). I can't say as I really care about the murderer's identity, but I shall finish it! (paper) 2) A book of 1000 movie reviews via Apprentice Alf - I'm about 1/3 of the way through, picking it up every so often. I'm not a real movie buff, so it'll be a looooong time before I get to the end. (ebook) 3) A (kind of quirky) book that looks at various European cultures in the 80's. I'd have abandoned it if it were longer, but it reads quickly enough that I'll stick with it. (library ebook) 4) A travel non-fiction library book on various boozes ("Boozehound") - it's quite interesting, and has me considering actually trying vermouth! (paper) 5) Penultimate adventure of sleuth Maisie Dobbs in 1930's Britain; it's an active series, but there's been a new one released since this book. (audio) I have two other (paper) library books out as well that I haven't started yet. |

Nice thread! I have been a tenacious reader [and moviegoer as well] my entire life. Historically speaking, I am quite proud to say that I can think of only 2 books offhand that I have ever started but not finished: - James Joyce - Ulysses - Dan Brown - DaVinci Code Guess which one I plan to finish one day? [hint: it ain't the one from the American guy] I am currently juggling 2 books on my K3 - I read pretty quickly, but I am one of those that like to devote their entire reading attention on one literary work at a time. OT: Maybe a separate thread along the lines of: "Toughest book I ever finished, but boy am I glad I did..." thread? Last edited by lestatar; 06-06-2011 at 10:53 PM. |

@lestatar: yes, that would be a good thread, and I do know what you mean! there are certainly some novels that I was made to read in my high school/early university days, and while I was a bit lazy to start them, I ended up being very satisfied and as for books being turned into movies, i think that once i watch the movie, i'm too lazy to read the book. i never read Dan Brown's books, just watched the movies. @sea: good luck |D i'm into travel non-fiction myself, but the ones i want to read are all from the Agency 6 and thus are rather costly for me in my situation at this time @PG: I can't imagine completely abandoning a book (just pauses for me), as I would want to at least force myself to finish and get my money's worth. |

I forgot that I have Dubliners ripped to audio -- I've listened to a few of the stories, but have several to go. I read almost entirely library books, either print or ebooks. Last edited by SeaBookGuy; 06-06-2011 at 11:42 PM. Reason: add second quote |

In grad school, I'd been known to order travel narrative titles the local library didn't have via Inter-Library Loan; the college librarians didn't know they weren't for a paper. |

I couldn't finish The DaVinci Code, but I don't plan to revisit it. I check in with Of Human Bondage now and again, but I can't stay with it. Too many other books on my Kindle and Kobo already that attract my attention. |
