Sony's touch screen optionally uses an included stylus, which I assume would also work on the Nook and Kobo screens, which use the same IR technology. Kind of old fashioned perhaps but very flexible and familiar. For the fingerprint-phobic, and others besides. (Note that of these 3, only Sony seems to allow annotation, unless you consider bookmarks 'annotation'. I don't use this feature on Kindle much, but I would not be without it.) I just want enough buttons to navigate to a book, open and turn pages. Thus Nook would work, Kobo would not. Beyond that, I'm happy to touch the screen (or use a stylus) to get to everything else. An option to tether a Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad might be nice for more specialized usage. |

Tried the new Nook today. Bezel is a little too wide so the device seems oddly proportioned. Idiot on the staff attached the security device to the face side of the lower right hand corner, exactly where you would hold the EBR to read it. Same guy who puts the price labels on top of the ingredients list or the cooking directions, or over the drink hole on cans of coke...

imo if Amazon wants to make a big one-up, in addition to a new generation screen, they'll make it 6.25-6.5" or something while trimming the enclosure down to compensate (via a touch/button hybrid). Just enough to give it some nice extra real estate without a significant size compromise. Even a 6.25" display would be enough to push it over the top, competitively. |

Well, from what I'm reading about the new nook, there seem to be quite a few issues with it. The decision they've made to only fully refresh the screen every 6 page turns leads, according to many reports, to significant ghosting, and internal memory is partitioned in such a way that only about 240MB of user content can be loaded. PDF support is very poor, and there's no landscape display mode. These are, of course, all issues that can be sorted out with a firmware upgrade, but as things stand at the moment I can't see many Kindle owners being tempted away.

Checked Nook Touch yesterday again ... in store ... but this time with wife. I must say I did not see major ghosting problem (paid a lot of attention on that) but she did not like the ergonomics (contrary of what I think, because I do) She said it's too small for her and weird while holding. Another customer was also playing around and asked about landscape and PDF support. The B&N representative did not lie but of course tried to diminish their importance. I left so not sure if he will buy one or not but his face was not a good one when knew there was no landscape. |

the only time I did see some when I was testing it's reboot time and the outline of the book cover was seen but the nook did a quick refresh and it was gone, So IMHO, significant ghost is a bit overstated. | |

I can honestly say that I saw zero ghosting, and, I was specifically looking for this while playing with it in the store for about 30 minutes. It might be more apparent in direct sunlight, but, I honestly didn't see it (and I TRIED to see it, looking very closely).

That looks like it, except I'm not sure about how the 5-way would fit in there.. looks quite awkwardly placed.
