Then quite possible your dissatisfaction with touch screen stems from this fact and 6" more comfortable to use

Assuming I read with text the same size, which I do, why would the extra inch of screen real estate make a difference? Isn't touching a tiny word on a 5" screen the same as touching the same tiny word on a 6" screen?
Or do they use a a better, or more precise, touch screen system on larger screens?

If you use exactly the same size for letters, then there is no difference, more over, 5" is more precise. However, if you use the same settings, such as be it small, medium or large, then the actual size of letters is different, smaller on 5". It could be tested side by side comparison of 350/650.

I happen to have both and the only times I do not hit the right word is when my fingernails are freshly cut and down to nil. Just use the stylus on these days, it is built into the device for a reason. Also Astra is right, it is easier to get it right with your fingers on the bigger screen, not at the center of the screen but at the sides.

AFAIK the 350 is your son's so why do you go on complaining about this?

Hey, now, it's on topic. The thread is about touch screens after all.

Aha, and this is why it is ok to say the same thing over and over again on every page there is in this thread. I will remember and argue accordingly from now on.

Well, he's responding to people who ask him questions and engage him in dialogue on this subject. If you think someone is a troll, stop feeding them. That's my philosophy, anyway.

You can't ask someone to clarify their position or elaborate on their problem and then if you don't like their answer, gripe about them banging on about the subject. That's not really fair.

And, frankly, it was an odd thing to say that the 5" and 7" would be different for highlighting a word. I was curious as to why that would be, too. Seeing as how I just bought a 950 and my Mom has a 350.

I guess the repetition is wearing the entertainment a bit thin now. I was hoping someone would notice the similarity between the discussion in The Simpsons, where Homer was annoyed that the phone company didn't tell him about the new area code change:

Quote:
Homer: What really burns me up is they didn't give us one word of warning.

Carl: What do you mean? They ran those TV commercials about it, and that big radio campaign.

Lenny: Don't forget the leaflets they dropped from the Space Shuttle, and the two weeks we all spent at area code camp.

Homer: Not a single word of warning.
...and the discussion in THIS THREAD:

Quote:
Some users: There's not a single reason why anyone would prefer non touch over touch.

Other users: Well, more people in the poll say they'd prefer non touch.

Other users: Some of us don't like the fingerprints, some of us find the the key navigation and searching more precise, some of prefer the ergonomics of well placed buttons.

Sweetpea: And the reason I don't like to touch the screen with dirty fingers is not because of fingerprints, but rather because I'm not sure what it'll do to the coating of the screen

Some users: Not a single reason why.

When did 26.59% become "more people"?

When 26.59% became more than 19.84%. I dunno when that was? The olden days I'd imagine.

But in any case the "more people" I refer to is, first, more than 'none' for the some folks who repeatedly post as if they are speaking for every one. and second, the 26.59% PLUS the 53.57% of the middle option (where I put myself), all of whom seem to have found some reasons where touch isn't clearly better in at least some cases.

So the ~75% who like, or love touch screen are the least people?

Fascinating this new math.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? You can't see that the smallest number up there is the number of folks who say touch is all they need, and ALL THE REST say they prefer non-touch for at least some purposes? Which is the only point I've been trying to make since page one?

A wise person said "Blindness is required for that sort of 'vision.'"

OK, you got me, I can't keep up.
