Not for me, sorry. I've been around ebooks longer than most people - I've seen several formats die already. Getting locked into one is not something I want to do.

And I don't want to have to convert all my ePubs to some other format until absolutely necessary.

YMMV, of course.

So for me, it looks like the Kobo is the best choice *right now*. Of course, things might change in a matter of months - so shall tech always be.

I do not read DRM books. The DRM never survives long enough to reach my ereader. That is why the wifi access to BnN is meaningless to me.

And now knowing that 3/4 of the available memory is excluded for only BnN purchases, the nook is no longer a consideration for me.

No Sale.

For $6 you can buy a 4GB micro sd-card, so memory is really not a problem!

Right, the issue isn't the lack of memory so much as the way it is handled.

Side-loaded books on the internal memory are put in the books directory along with everything else. So far, so good.

Side-loaded books on the SD card are not put in the books directory along with everything else.

How much this changes functionality is yet to be seen, but on the NC, this was a significant drawback. (Couldn't put SD card items on the home screen, for instance.)

I'm guessing that as soon as someone is able to hack/root the device, and create a "custom" firmware solution, most or all of these problems (screen refresh rate, sideloaded books on SD cards, etc) will be fixed.

I am hoping someone can confirm that the NOOK STR is like the NC in regards to side-loaded books on the internal memory. Page 51 of the user guide is slightly confusing. It implies that Books is for BN-purchased content only. It states that EPUBs and PDFs that have been loaded via USB from your personal computer will be placed in the Library in My Files. I sure hope they haven't blocked user write privileges to the Books folder but the wording of the manual has me wondering. Can you have both BN-content and personal content listed in the Books section of the Library?

Negris' post on page 1 left me to believe that side-loaded (250 MB) internal memory files were placed in My Books.

Negris' post on page 3 left me to believe that side-loaded SD card files were placed in My Files.

Maybe someone can confirm this. Also 250 MB. MB! I haven't measured memory in MB in months. Years, even. *sigh*

Sideloaded internal memory files show up in books. I tried this and that is the case.

Sideloaded SD card files show up in My Files only. I did not try this, but that is what the user manual says.

Awesome! Thanks! Well, not so awesome on the SD card files, but good news on the internal memory.

Thanks for the confirmation. I guess I will wait for some hands on time with the new Kobo.

Yeah, I was surprised at how little space is available for sideloading. But I still had the 4gb card I used for installing the nookdev hacked firmware, so no problems getting my 1200+ books loaded. Transfer speed seemed much higher than it was with my Nook WiFi, that's for sure.

Hopefully they will have updated firmware to allow us to have no margins at all. And maybe something more useful on the collection management. No way I'm going to go make shelves for that many books. Love the hacked library app, maybe they will have a flashable firmware sometime soon that will have some of that functionality

And is it possible to have the clock and battery charge icons up at the top while reading? Not like it's hard to tap the screen to bring up the menu, but it would be nice if that was something you could toggle.

Loving it so far!

Well, it is and isn't a problem. I can't speak for the Nook, but I very rarely used my SD card on my Sony PRS-505, because it would drain the battery much more quickly than when I only used internal memory.

What does this mean in terms of functionality? Does anything in "My files" not get queried for book searches, or does its metadata not get read so that it only shows up by filename?

Is so, I'd have to go with the other posters here and say that the 250 MB limit becomes VERY relevant. I was getting so excited for a while there - are we back to second-class treatment for SD card content?

I chickened out guys. Not being able to sync bookmarks, notes, and highlights did it for me. If they include this in an update, I'll bite. Man, I need an eink device.

I just got my new Nook and the sideloaded SD card files show up in the library along with the Barnes and Noble books. They are not separated any longer. Most of the covers on the sideloaded books show up as well.
