*There's no justification for charging more for an ebook than a paper-book because zeroes and ones cost less than paper and ink. *If i buy an ebook I own it and can do whatever I want with it. *Ereaders will be $99 next year. $79 the year after. Eventually they will pay you to own one. *OMG BORDERS FAIL |

And the related "Eyestrain from LCDs is a myth."

At the risk of BEATING A DEAD HORSE, I think the jury may still be out on that. Anecdata aside, I haven't seen any genuine studies on LCD/eInk eyestrain. Heck, I can't find a meaningful scientific definition of "eyestrain". If it's just "how people feel", that can be highly prone to suggestion. I'd like to see something measurably defined and studied. I don't have a bone in the fight; I just don't think the tech has been out long enough for the medical fields to catch up. If we're building off anecdata, I personally don't get 'eyestrain' on eInk or LCD devices. So probably the dead horse would be: EYESTRAIN ON A <INSERT DEVICE HERE> IS INEVITABLE AND*/OR IMPOSSIBLE AND CLAIMING OTHERWISE IS A PRODUCT OF A DERANGED IMAGINATION. * note that "inevitable" and "impossible" are mutually exclusive, but that's why it's a DEAD HORSE. |

Edited to add: I actually do experience problems using a backlit LCD for long periods of reading. I have to look away frequently, which isn't conducive to getting into a good story. But then, I'm one of those people that has problems for an hour after a camera flash goes off near me. Last edited by CWatkinsNash; 06-04-2011 at 06:30 PM. | |

That makes sense. I STRONGLY suspect that any real research is going to show that it's More Complicated Than That, and that eyestrain really depends a lot on the biology of the person reading, the ambient lighting conditions, and so much more than just EINK OR LCD? |

THIS FEATURE is unimportant to me, so no manufacturer/developer should include it.
