[dup post in other thread]

I ordered on 1/28.
The first thing to change was my shipping status. The order status is still promising the email to let me know when it is shipping. I have not got that yet and my bank account has not been pinched yet either but the shipping status is as below...

Shipment #1: Shipping Soon We are preparing these items for shipment and this portion of your order cannot be canceled or changed. Need information on returning an item?

Shipping estimate:February 26, 2008 - March 11, 2008
Delivery estimate:February 28, 2008 - March 13, 2008

***

So that's exactly two weeks from order to the first sign of change.

I got the shipping notice this morning with an ETA of the 14th. If that holds up that will be about 16 days from order. From what I have read that must be some sort of record!

Maybe, production is finally starting to catch up with demand.

My kindle just came in!! I ordered it on January 24. Not too bad. Working for the rest of the day is very hard.

I'm REALLY excited abou this little doo-dad. I have been compulsivly checking my Amazon account, bank account and email for any signs of my Kindle shipping for over a week now even though I knew full well it was way too early but now it's getting close.

I've read just about evey review so now I feel so much like I already have one that I had a dream about it last night and woke up lookin on the nightstand for it. Sick, I know.

My only complaints so far are Amazons' departure from their normally excellent disclosure and tracking and the insane price. I'd like to have a better idea of the order-to-ship hang-time and I'd like to see more of these in the hands of people who make under six figures. Hell, I just made that for the first time in my life and Im a 45 year old professional. Back when I was in school and actually had time to read I could not have afforded one. Mainly because eventhough $400 was about $100 in 1983 dollars, that was a little more than I ever seemed to have liquid at any given point.

Anyway, I've babbled on long enough. I gotta go check my email.

Thanks again for posting. It really helps.
I know the $400 seems like a lot (well, it is a lot) but if one just has an EVDO contract the bill would be that or more in a year or so. I expect Amazon may actually be able to drop the price a bit once enough are out there for long enough to fulfill their agreement with Sprint.

I make well under '6 figures' and found the Kindle to be quite affordable.

As far as I can tell, there have been no major shipments since 2/13 - the day I ordered.

Since that time I have been checking Amazon pretty regularly and the same people that were waiting then are waiting today. It has been 3 weeks without a major shipment.

Rumors for the delay go from Chinese New Year slowing things down to an E-Ink shortage, to a top secret E Reader project from Apple. No solid information has come out that I know of and I am still waiting.

The natives are restless, and the people who have profited from the impatience/anger/fear are the scalpers. I've noticed on eBay the prices have jumped back up to the $500 level from a low of around $425.
