EE browser issues
I got my secondhand EE today, and I'm exploring.
I'm having lots of browser crashes, where I abruptly get bumped out to the home screen. It happens with the native browser and with Dolphin. Is this Froyo, or the EE ion general, or a problem with this EE? Any ideas? Anything I can do? |

if this is Ermine, is it worth the hassle to downgrade then re-upgrade? Any work-arounds?

Did the previous user flash it with the golden update before sending it to you? If not, I think that would be the place to start. Otherwise, you have too many unknowns.

Unfortunately it seems as though ermine has had a lot of problems for people who own the EE(very few with PE's have reported errors, though a few have). I hate to say it, but I think that if you use the device for browsing a lot it would be worth the downgrade(if you only use it occasionally then I think the benefits outweigh the bad)...

I do browse a lot. What do I lose? Some apps won't work? Speed?
Where do I track down files and instructions for the golden dingo downgrade? Is re--upgrading worth it after downgrading? |

You might have to wait for someone to show up who had downloaded it before and can upload it somewhere... And there are instructions in a lot of places around here... basically, you rename the golden update file to update.zip, then place it in the root directory of a USB thumb drive, then boot up your EE while holding down the rotate and menu buttons for at least 7-ish seconds.
And I think it may be worth re--upgrading, though there is no guarantee that any of the problems you are experiencing will be fixed... |

I browse a lot with my PE and have good results, but I had to go through a few browsers to find the ones that worked best for me. I'm now using Dolphin Mini and xScope6.

I had problems with frequent browser crashes on the EE even before the upgrade to Ermine. Some sites just have too much weirdness going on. Engadget is a really great place to make the browser crash.

I think the answer is yes to the first, but definitely yes to the second. I found speed shot up once I upgraded to Ermine on the EE. I also experienced some browser crashes, but I don't browse a lot anymore, so I accepted the trade off.

My problem is that it crashes on sites I need to access and use for work, like the website for the courses I teach, where I upload assignments for students, set up forum topics, read their forum posts, and download their assignments for review.
Naively, I didn't expect this, as the PE doesn't crash like this on me at all. So I think I'm going to need to either get very prepared and browse on the PE and the desktop and then sugarsync all my files for student work, or downgrade to Dingo. I can give up speed if it means I get to finish a task on a website without getting booted out four times in a row. |

Anyone know if the golden dingo update posted on a recent thread (downloadable at hotfile) is an EE version or PE?
