Well, I'm now the proud owner of a 350 - charging it up as I speak, what excitement !
![]() However, advice please - can I run the 350 and my 650 on the same PC ? 'Cos when I plugged the 350 in to charge, my "old" ( i.e. 650 ) Reader Library popped up, with the downloaded library listed. Obviously, what I want is two separate entities, ideally, so I can treat each one as a stand-alone reader without connection to the other. Now, I haven't registered, or downloaded, etc.. anything from the website - thought I'd charge it fully first - so will this all be taken care of, as it were, when I make itself known ? If it'll make things easier, another PC is available to use as the 350's "mothership" instead of mine - they are networked, but are totally separate. ( Ahead lies the business of getting my freebies, installing the Library, etc... without son's expert eye/sarcastic comments, but should be up to it now - fingies, toes, & whatsits crossed ! ) ![]() |

That's not a problem. I use Reader Library with multiple devices. The same one instance of Reader Library can handle both devices.

Once Sony Reader Library is launched, if you look on the left, you'll see the 350 listed as the device. Click on it and you'll see that no books are on it. You can drag and drop any or none of the books in your library over to it once it's registered--the content doesn't have to mirror that of your 650. Enjoy your new reader!

Well, I tried, but there's no device listing on the left that I can see.
And when I tried via d/loading a free book, it told it couldn't be loaded because reader wasn't registered . So I went to the other PC, tried to d/load the free classics, get them into downloads, but cant get them into Reader. Calibre ? ![]() |

carpetmojo,
May I suggest that in order to register/make known to Sony your new 350, with your new reader plugged into your computer, you open Sony Reader Library (perhaps as in your first post Reader Library will automatically open when your reader is plugged in), then take the following steps. Go to: Sony Reader Library > eBook Store > My Account > Manage/Rename Devices You will find 'eBook Store' listed on the left side of the Reader Library software, below Status and above Computer. Once you are in the Manage Devices section, you ought to be prompted to register the new device. I'm not able to remember exactly what I did in order register either of my PRS-x50 devices, but this is close. If all else fails, call Sony CS. Good Luck. ETA: As others have pointed out, the same instance of Reader Library will manage both your readers. I am also assuming you or your son registered/authorized your computer and your 650, and set up an account with Sony -- that seems probable. Last edited by redbees; 06-01-2011 at 11:55 AM. being in the UK I dont think you are able to access the Sony Reader Library ebook store.
I also cant remember exactly what I did but I remember authorising with ADE. I cannot use SL for some reason but after authorising with ADE I can use Calibre and everything is working fine. What I dont know is if you can authorise more than 1 device with ADE sorry couldnt be any more helpful |

carpetmojo,
My apologies for the garbled state of my previous post. This was due to editing to add points as they occurred to me. I also apologize for my failure to note your location in the UK. I was making the assumption that since you already own a PRS-650, you had registered that device with Sony and had an account with them. I don't know from my own experience if you can buy books from Sony with a UK address. Poppea (in Germany) and Ivy (in Croatia) seem to be able to get books from Sony. I also assumed that you are familiar with Adobe Digital Editions and its use in downloading DRM'd books. Are you already using Calibre? How have you been putting books on your existing reader? Anyway, my previous post was only meant to point the way to the appropriate section of Sony's site/bookstore for you to register your ereader, which will allow Sony to 'recognize' the device so that you can add books using the Sony Reader Library app. Let us know how it goes. In Mojos case I recommend strongly the use of RL. It is easy to handle, intuitiv and can do all he needs to do. Calibre would be overkill for you Mojo. It has far too many features and buttons and will only confuse you. The Reader Library will lead you to Waterstones if I am not mistaken and one or two other stores to choose from. That should be fine enough. Calibre is a very fine program but it is not for those who have only basic computer skill IMO. |

That's my girl !! ![]() How well you know me - that's me to a "T" Poppaea ! ![]() And yes, I've got all the Calibres , ADE's etc.. but have so far only used RL, 'cos it's all I 've used, if you get me........... And yes, I am so easily confused, definitely. ![]() But I shall get daring and have a fiddle about - I can always blame redbees ! ![]() |

A minor quibble. The Sony bookstore is also available in Canada. That said, it has nothing to offer that isn't available from Kobo.
