That is so not true! A common error that people make. I can and have bought many books from fictionwise for my kindle. I have also bought books from on line publishers for my Kindle. In fact, I have only bought 3 or 4 books from amazon for my Kindle. The rest have ALL come from other sources.

Oh come on guys! We all know that Amazon is just waiting for this thread to come to a reasonable resolution, so they can steal our brilliant idea right from us, without spending their own brain power. |

I believe Amazon's strength is in marketing. They will do fine with kindle. The only thing missing is color and it's just a matter of time that they come up with colored kindle.

Even if you don't read comics or look at color pictures for your books, it'd be nice to have color screen savers and it'll do wonders for the interface. Personally I want color because I do read PDFs with a lot of color charts, I've been getting pretty good at sorting shades of grey, but still...

I don't think Amazon will "react", per se, to the latest releases. It's too soon after the $114 price announcement, and not enough time has elapsed since the Kindle 3. I don't like touchscreen devices for reading, but if they release a touchscreen device, I hope there's a lock on it. One of the more annoying things about my Kindle 1, when I had it, was the inadvertent page turns if I was carrying it the wrong way or handed it to someone to look at. I don't think we're close to a color e-ink device from Amazon. My understanding is the technology is still pretty expensive. How much incentive is there for Amazon to release a color e-ink device for a premium price when you've got the Nook Color and other tablets out there that would cost less? I don't think the color LCD screen on the Nook Color is bad enough in light to justify it, for most people. What I'd like to see in the next Kindle is a return of the SD slot. But I have little hope for that. |

I'm not opposed to color or touch technology. I'm just opposed to either of those "features" changing my existing reading experience in any way. Don't degrade the B&W screen clarity; let me keep my physical buttons and everything will be okey-dokey. I personally think keeping a dirt-cheap, basic B&W, non-touch, no-frills model available makes a lot of business sense--especially if you're truly as concerned with customer satisfaction as you claim to be. True folder (organization) support and an SD slot would be at the top of my wishlist. Everything else is bland gravy. Last edited by DiapDealer; 05-28-2011 at 08:45 AM.

They will keep selling devices. BUT, not because the devices are superior, but because of their "surroundings", meaning Amazon book store. People want to buy their books from Amazon and they think the only way to read those books are on Kindles. Concept as a whole may be superior, the device isn't. I'm sure the Amazon people are totally aware of that and way more ready to admit that than the devoted current users. I'd be extremely suprised if there isn't a Kindle Touch on it's way.

I wouldn't say a copy considering the fact that the 650 doesn't have wifi, and the nook does. That's kind of a big deal...

So "If" isn't the question when it comes to a Kindle Touch... "how" is. And it's a biggie: it has to attract new customers while at the same time, not piss off old customers who were looking to upgrade.

I think Amazon are smart enough to realize that people want choice. The keyboard will disappear, but ther will be othr buttons. My guess: Page trurning buttons as is now. A row of quick menu buttons below the screen. Maybe "Go to", "search", "font/size" and of course "home"... |
