Not that you can do that from an unrooted Nook Classic. Or if you can, I dont' know how.

I don't know. Does the classic have a browser? I do it form both my Nook Color and Kindle.

Nook Classic has a browser, but when I try to download from my Dropbox site, it says "NO".

So, having the browser removed for Nook 2 (or whatever) wouldn't affect the "no Dropbox" issue.

It has a browser but you can't download from it.

The other obvious use of a browser is to accept terms for some wifi networks (like a lot of hotels). Does anyone know if the new nook provides another way to do that? Because if it's wifi only, that functionality becomes way more important.

That's a REALLY good point, actually. I hope that hasn't been forgotten - I realize that the B&N wifi just embraces all nooks automatically, but not everyone else's wifi works the same way.

It's too bad they eliminated the browser, especially since they added the one feature that would make the browser better - the touch screen.

However, I think they are trying to further clarify the difference between the Classic and Color Nooks. The classic is now even more of a pure reader than before.

I have to say that I am very happy that they are continuing to use the e-ink technology, as opposed to just concentrating on the Color LCD screen. I think a lot of folks were worried about that (on this forum too) when the Color came out. Yes, the 2 technologies have their place in the world and this is another acknowledgment of this. Amazon continues to support their e-ink Kindle too, so it's all good!

Accepting wifi terms is really the only thing I do with my "1st gen" nook's crap browser.

AT&T hotspot wifi should work automatically as should your own home wifi and B&N wifi. But nearly everyone else makes you sign in somehow.

No speakers, no MP3 player = no audiobooks.

There is no Nook in my future unless they drop the price to around $100.

I can definitely see the audiobook thing being a problem for people who like to "read along" with the audio. I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it.

Poor audiobooks. Always an after thought. Would of been a nice feature. Anyway, I hope Amazon doesn't drop its audio features (speakers, text-to-speech, MP3 & Audible support) when they upgrade to touchscreen. These are features I find myself using on my Kindle more than I initially thought I would.

Still, my primary devices for audiobooks are my Sansa Clip+ and iPod touch 4, with the Clip+ easily being my favorite device.

Yeah, I never messed with the audiobook functions on my nooks, because I use my Cowon player for its bookmarking capability. I assume that the Nook and NC don't provide MP3 bookmarking?

I am pondering the fact that they are promoting this as a stripped down eReader for those who don't want frills, but they are pricing it $10 under the regular nook and $25 more expensive than the Kindle, which is hardly stripped down. As has been the case since inception, B&N seems to be clueless as to what their customers want, hence their very expensive marketing campaign that barely gets them 25% of the market.

It is unfortunate, as I like my nook since I rooted it. I just see know point in this new version. It reminds me of a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Well.... I would presume that B&N would say that their $140 reader is better than the $114 Kindle because:

1. Touch interface
2. Faster response time
3. Less flash/ghosting
4. No ads

But - as you have demonstrated - how much value customers subscribe to these features is EXTREMELY variable.

I would rather have the $140 nook than the $114 kindle. But I'm not necessarily the person B&N wants to reach - they already have me as a customer. They need to be reaching the people who don't have ANY e-Reader, and price point is probably going to matter more than technical features (less flash!) that non-techies aren't as aware of.

Hi all. I current have a Sony PRS-350 with the Pearl eInk touch screen. I noticed this new Nook2 was out. Does the current Nook allow you to load any ePub or pdf book onto the device? Meaning not purchased at the B&N store and with or without DRM. Can it use Adobe Digital Editions?

The current Nook can do that, and I don't think they would deviate from that model.
