I did think seriously about the Cradlepoint PHS300, I really did because it's an even more compact solution. But when I read people are not getting more then a few hours use from a single charge I decided that the ability to use the CTR350 as a backup router for my home network in the case we lose power (btw, we work from home and all both on laptops for exactly that reason so why shouldn't the router be in the mix.) Sure the CTR350 means an external power source but oh, well, it's tiny and still very portable. |

Anyway, good news was I did get my Franklin CDU680 to fire up today via the N800's USB port using the drivers on the device and the USB OTG adapter. Now all it did was look for a network, probably really just went through POST and then never found anything because something is not yet setup correctly on my N800. I was able to measure the voltage of the port accurately using the special converter-OTG adapter and get a steady 5.09v which is plenty to power the modem. Still as I said above, I just wanna see it work but I will always connect via the router. Besides the router adds that extra layer of protection. Even though it's Linux and should be secure out of the box so to speak, and since I am not even close to an expert at all with Linux, there could be security holes you could drive a truck through. ![]() One thing a day is all I am trying to figure out...keeps me busy at least. ![]() |

The N810 has a micro USB port and i think the only reason is that there was no space for a mini USB. It can work as a host port but then ypu have to have a special cable or use a female-female USB adapter.
