Hi,
Looking for a "readable" and non biased ebook about Israeli–Palestinian conflict, I prefer on Kindle version. Found this one at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Palestine-Isra...5911776&sr=1-1 but is on pbook only. Any suggestions? |

I read that in a mid-eastern studies course. Pretty good. Honestly the nature of the issue (and the nature of history writing in general) makes truly unbiased writing on it near-impossible. There are some good works that make solid attempts at level-headedness, like David K. Shipler's well written Arab and Jew. Shipler was a NYTimes Israel correspondent for a while and it's a good read. (edit: apparently no ebook version, which shouldn't stop you if the subject matter is more important than the format)
Some of the biased works are actually very good, and important. The key is exposing yourself to works on both sides if you want a deep understanding of the subject. imo. |

Thank you so much for the advice.
Yeah, I visited B&N yesterday and saw couple of books that I like. I will probably buy one of those. Thanks again. |

Maybe body armor and an RPG would be more useful...
![]() OK, books... Try " Accidental Empire" AMAZON It's not available as an ebook, and I haven't read it, but it's well regarded. I've read "Six Days of War" -the event which supercharged the conflict. Its excellent and is available as an ebook. There is also a Kindle edition for Thomas Friedman's "From Beirut to Jerusalem" , which is a decent primer on the conflict up to the First Intifada. This is the most written about ethnic conflict in history, so there is no shortage of material out there. If you were interested in the Congo or the Kashmir, you would be really stuck. |

My recommendations - all available in ebooks
-This time we went too far by Norman Finkelstein from OR books - it can be bought as a package - pbook+ebook in ePub and mobi versions -A Divided Paradise - An Irishman in the Holy Land by David Lynch -The Hour of Sunlight by Sami al Jundi and Jen Marlow -Palestine Peace not Apartheid by Jimmy Carter -We Can Have Peace in the Holy Land by Jimmy Carter -Blood Brothers by Elias Chacour - if you can only read one this is probably the best introduction. All have their strengths and points of view. If you care to PM me I'll go over them in more detail. Regards, Alex |

PS Don't, whatever you do, buy Zionism: The enemy of the Jews by Alan Hart unless Amazon has cleaned up its formatting. This is absolutely the worst formatted book I have ever tried to read.

Another very strong recommendation: Fast times in Palestine by Pamela Olson. It is available from Amazon and from Smashwords where I gave it a five star review. It is an autobiographical account by a young American woman who lived in Palestine for many years and recorded what she saw and experienced. Very well written, with lots of references.

Wiley's Non Sequitur comic strip has lots of past insightful words on the nature of the conflict... oh well, not directly related, but here goes for some nice laughs: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/118/3...44d050ac_o.gif http://paxsims.files.wordpress.com/2...ur_pan-698.jpg |

At the moment I'm reading "The Arabs a History" by Eugene Rogan. It is an outline of the history of the middle east. It starts as far back as the beginning of the Ottoman empire and works its way chronologically to today. While it doesn't specialize on the Israel/Palestine conflict, it does discuss it to some extend.
