For some reason it associated with the language of the land of Mordor for me, so unattractive and ugly it was. I guess it is a very personal thing, depends on your hearing. I cannot sing, so mayby I am limited in the range of sounds, though my hearing is absolutely fine (checked it 1 year ago).
That's right! English sounds good, beautiful. I like how it sounds since the first time I heard it. French sounds weird, and by no means romatic or anything. German sounds... right I always like German and intend to take a course or two right after when I finish the basic of French I'm only scared that I might mix them all up then.

French is wayyyy too logical for me. Disturbingly logical while it claims to be the language of love. How ironic. So many grammar notes to remember: mon ton son, ma ta sa, mes tes ses, nos vos leurs --> 12 words. English: my, your, his, her, its, our, their --> 6 words.

In the meantime, English is fine. It doesn't have many rules, and they are to be broken

I just finished edit a long review on Goodreads, click "save" and it crashed bastard a hammer is tempting.

I remember having the same problem when learning Spanish - I think (all?) latin based languages do this. This is also why I still keep a Spanish/English dictionary on my desk at work - gotta make sure you get the gender right when making those bilingual door signs...

My ears tear up when I hear French and when I have to speak it my brain takes a coffee break but I did find it ok to learn, in the sense that it does have rules, no matter how convoluted they might be.

I recall sitting in French classes and the teacher would give a morphology rule and then fill the whiteboards with exceptions, lol. I guess that just contradicts the first paragraph.

Maianhvk, how about a language that changes gender from singular to plural (or it appears to do so anyway)?

There's a reason for the sun shiny sky
And there's a reason why I'm feelin' so high
Must be the season
When that love light shines all around us
So let that feelin' grab you deep inside
And send you reelin' where your love can't hide
And then go stealin'
Through the summer nights with your lover

Just let your love flow like a mountain stream
And let your love grow with the smallest of dreams
And let your love show
And you'll know what I mean, it's the season

Happy Sunday, all! I hope each and every one of us survived yesterday's apocalypse. I'm celebrating the fact that I woke up today with a mug of Keemun tea, a bowl of rice and some kimchee. THAT will get me going today!

Chores to do today... buy 20 kg of rice and have it milled, buy 5kg of cat food, shop for dinner ingredients... (Chinese Ma Pwo To-fu I think, Szechuan style...) hit some plant stores looking for African Violets... nice relaxed day!

I'm familiar with kimchee. Well, in the sense that when my roommate opens a jar of kimchee, I flee to the other end of the house.

It's not that it smells bad to me, really, it's just a really strong smell. I have a rather sensitive nose.

That's why in Korea everyone stores their kimchee pots outside. You see them on almost every door step, on every roof top, and even on some fire escapes!

There are lots of varieties; cabbage, daikon, etc., but all have a really strong smell. Some are hot enough to destroy steel! The first time I went to Korea I lived in fear of having my tongue melt! These days I can gobble down anything they throw at me! I love it.

Spanish too? OMG, what if "car" has different sexes in different languages? like, feminin in French, masculin in Spanish and neutral in German?? (just a made-up example)

Have a nice Sunday, everyone.
(exclude me by the way, I'll do the laundry - hand-wash all the clothes - and brush up on General Laws to survive the final exam...)

At least you don't have the problem that your native language has masculine and feminine words as well, like Dutch/Flemish. Often a word that's feminine in Flemish will be masuciline in French or the other way around.

I think it depends on the dialect. I can't stand Texan American (no offense to any Texans on this forum though!), but I like Oxford-English. It's the same for French I think. One of my colleagues is from Paris, and his French is beautiful. German ... now that is a harsh-sounding language! I think the dislike has a lot to do with history though.

how do you know that mine doesn't have the masculin/feminin problem? of course it does nouns are not clearly divided into masculin/feminin, but "cái"/"con" are used as articles for different nouns foreigners learning Vietnamese complain about this just as me about French
